There must be a lot of free-floating anger around out there. It does not seem possible for even the most innocuous post in BF to avoid devolution into a pissing match between two or more posters. Once a post goes beyond, oh, say, 15-20 replies, it seems inevitable that 50% of the ensuing replies consist of some sort of disagreement that has nothing to do with the topic at hand.

Anyone know someone who is looking for a research topic in Sociology or group psych?

Not sure about that high rate but I do know of one here who has never experienced any problematic incidences cycling so opposes any safety measures for anybody because he doesn't need it.
