Cyclocross and Gravelbiking (Recreational) This has to be the most physically intense sport ever invented. It's high speed bicycle racing on a short off road course or riding the off pavement rides on gravel like : "Unbound Gravel". We also have a dedicated Racing forum for the Cyclocross Hard Core Racers.

Drop Bar Converted Trek Multi-Track?

I found this on Craigslist and it piques my interest:

Does anybody ride a drop bar converted one of these or have experience with one?

I converted a 90s univega hybrid when first getting into gravel rides, though it wasnt as well spec'd as the one for sale.

My brother in law converted a Trek 750 to a drop bar gravel bike...might be a '92?...its the last year they lugged the frame.
His works great. Solid setup and has clearance for 40mm tires(his fork is original, not sure what the carbon fork on the for sale bike can handle).

As for the bike for sale- its nicely spec'd. The drivetrain is 2gen old, fyi. So certainly not the latest, but if it works well, so what- right?
Only 1 pic is lame. And it being on the non-drive side is double lame.
Check the cable routing on the top tube. It looks like the original cable stop is missing and a clamp was used instead. That is something thatll make no effective difference in use, but is not so appealing to many from an aesthetic standpoint. Unfortunate that the seller doesnt mention it. Sure doesnt seem lile that is built into the price either...

It looks like there may be a guide tube on the seat post to handle the cable. That only works with traditional cantilever brakes though, not with V-Brakes. I have an old Paramount mountain bike that has a tube like that to guide the cable. Definitely worth looking into, though.

That looks like somebody trying to cash in all their random parts-bin stuff.

I bet the original fork was bent from a front impact, hence the carbon replacement. Price is pretty nuts, $400?

Run, don't walk, away from that sale.

The frame size is only 48cm.. a bit small if you're 5'6" and over in height.
And no disrespect to the owner, if he really did a great job on his conversion he's not gonna sell it after just 200 miles.

If it fit me (it doesn't) I'd be a lot more interested at $250. Decent frame, but the earlier lugged versions were much more interesting.
