I'd also ditch the tires for something better quality and lighter-rolling.
Taiwan no name parts like Joytech and Promax are pretty much bomb-proof and bike mechanics say for budget parts no great need to upgrade them until they wear out.
The Midtown is a Raleigh Twenty clone and with suitable upgrades can approach the ride of a Bike Friday at a fraction of the cost.
