I never take a camera riding .. but I ride Mills Peak trail every year on vacation .. I use my Paratrooper.. some info/reviews by others below.. 3400' up ..

I've never heard of a mainframe failure.. not that you can't break anything, but I'm sure if it was originally built for military use, it would have had to pass some minimum structural integrity requirements to get the contracts.. usually the knock on the bike is component selection.. easily upgraded to riders likes ..

The Paratrooper line of folding bikes is HARDCORE. Don't let opinions fool you. I did a search for "Montague Bike Trail Rides"
and found a couple of decent videos. These bikes can handle the rough stuff.

My paratrooper is over ten years old. It has been on some tough terrain without ride ending issue. Worst was a brake failure (front) at the far end of the trail. Needless to say the ride back to the road was interesting.

Been a few years since it has seen any serious single track. Rider isn't hard core - not the bike.

It might have been developed for military use but I think it would be considered 'expendable' if under fire.

I have colleagues that used Paratroopers for some multisport events and were quite content with their performance. No big jumps or anything, but definitely full-on XC riding.

I've only seen 1 person have an issue with a Paratrooper, and it was because they didn't have the seatpost in the frame correctly (the seatpost was too short for the person apparently). Otherwise, they're tough suckers!

There had been a flood of Montague counterfeits over the past several years, I recall seeing many of them around town. Names such as "HUMMER" (although there was an earlier agreement with Montague and GM to produce the Hummer brand back in the early 2000's) and the "Montbike" comes to mind, definitely cheap clone brands that won't stand up to the rigors. I think definitely that has a lot to do with hurting the reputation of the Montague as a robust bike. If you get a genuine frame, I think it will take all you throw at it without any issue.

I would not worry about the Montague frame for hard Mountain bike use. They have been building them for 20+ years. If there had been an issue it would have been fixed by now. They come with a lifetime frame warranty.

Usually the cracked frame issues come from either many years of heavy use (you got your value out of it) or an extreme drop that bends everything else on the bike too----wheels, fork, seatpost, cranks. handlebars.

The Montague comes with a lifetime frame warranty.---I would not hesitate to ride it like I stole it.

Great town bike options

You obviously haven't ridden one.

I've taken my Montague to Arizona and all over the Pacific Northwest and it handles as good as any hardtail I've ridden. A few upgrades and it's an excellent mountain bike.

I have a paratrooper. Done quite a lot of trail riding on it n Australia. No jumps, no high speed stuff just dirt tracks with lots of corrugations which shake everything.
Never had any issues.
