I went out for a ride today, because it is so unusual to not have snow here in January. Lots of frost on the streets, and even some black ice on the bke trails.... Tooooooo much ice and frozen leaves(wet) on the bike paths, so only ended up with a few miles...... And it was really cold, at 12 degrees F. No bike clothes, just warm and bulky stuff.

Back in the house, and bike is back on the hook, enjoying some hot coffee.

Oh well, I tried!

Good on you for getting out there.
We've had a fair amount of snow over the past 48 hours, so I am hanging to go out in the snow for a ride.

Grand Day Out!

Great to see where you chaps get to explore, lots of sunny pictures which are great and then reading I'm not the only one enduring almost freezing temperatures and numb toes/feet.

Had a ride out to Richmond (North Yorkshire, not down South), Grinton, Leyburn, Masham, back home - nice 58 mile broken up half way by a scone and hot chocolate at The Dales Biking Centre, top job.

Here are some pictures, the route encompassed part of the 2014 Tour De France, Grand Depart, very quiet today though - nice.

In the distance, out of sight are the villages of Grinton and Reeth. There are a few hundred people living in Swaledale, named after the River Swale which carved the valley. Back in the 1800s some 4000 people lived here, employed in the lead mining industry. When cheaper imports arrived many of the families/miners went to seek their fortunes in the USA.
A few hundred yards behind me is one of the best preserved Smelt Mills left in Swaledale, the sheep seem to shelter there - the breed of sheep is also called a Swaledale!

A bit busier and brighter back in July.

Also passed through Masham, home of Black Sheep Brewery and Theakstons

Not sure the correct name for that Cat (swamp crawler excavator) but it's at home in that environment here in Louisiana digging drainage ditches as they are constantly building new docks. Those are jack up oil rigs in that pic waiting to be put to work. I'm sure this is the most busiest oil field services port in the US.

TRIVIA....Maybe it's a Queensland thing, but I've never heard of them called Cat. (as obvious as it looks, I know). I've only heard them refered to as Caterpillar.

It's Cat here at my job. Our 4 main engines & 2 thurster engines are Caterpillars. For some reason we have 1 John Deere generator. And I just got out my mouth the Cat Mechanic just left the boat!

After fighting off pneumonia, the darkening skies, the holidays, Old Man Winter, and life in general, I went for my first ride in more than 2 months last night. I had picked up a VERY bright dual LED SolarStorm headlamp to help with the night riding, and off I went.

Wow, amazing how much more difficult it was after 2 months out of the saddle. I did 17 miles at 1.3mph slower on the Fuji Absolute than my normal "Pre-Sabbatical" pace, and could feel the 10 pounds I had managed to put back on over the holidays.

No pics, but I did find out that the construction I had seen at one of the marinas on my prior rides that I assumed was utility work in preparation for a widening of a freeway ended up to be a 10' wide bike path that will run along a penninsula on the large lake I frequent. Sweet! I don't know how long it will be since it has yet to open and I was only able to ride until the concrete stopped after riding past a few barricades, but that will be a nice addition to my normal route.

55 degrees without any wind at the start of the ride last night, so not bad. I'll be taking a few days off again as we're expecting wind chills in the low teens the next several days. Such is life...

Glad to be back.

To the hill of Sant Pere Màrtir, behind Barcelona. Dust, gravel, well-mantained tarmac, poorly mantained tarmac, mud... enough to have good fun and a couple of climbs to keep me from getting lazy. The way back was full of joggers, families, weekend warriors and what-have-you (I took the easy way, so I'm partly guilty of it). Anyway, fun ride after two months of forced rest after a crash.

Hey Camjr, sounds like you've shown the pneumonia who's boss which is great news, plus a 10 ft bike path - what's one of them?

Pedalzilla, Barcelona nice and sunny, got some friends just south of Malaga and dream of getting some warm winter riding there,,,,,bucket list. So in the mean time sucking up the winter sun/snow/rain here. Met some friends there before going to the Pyrenees mountain biking, they went out a week before the rest of us arrived and enjoyed the pubs and bars of Barcelona. Decided to unpack their bikes and explore the Olympic Park which ended up in a visit to A & E requiring stitches.

Speaking of which, going to get out on my Crosstrail this weekend, North York Moors. Will post some pics and take digital camera instead of I-phone. A chap at work mentioned 'rules of 3' when taking photos???

Have a good weekend - post them rides.

My bike has officially been put up since early this month. I got out as much as I could in December but now we're getting snow dumped on us pretty much constantly, and I don't need to ride that badly. Yet.

So my bike took me nowhere.

JBC,
My little boy loved it, lets make snowmen. This earned me a golden ticket & the missus took me to the boozer for Sunday Lunch, washed down with a pint hopped with Nelson Sauvin hops from New Zealand.

I've just ordered these,,,,

So back in business. Post us some pictures of frying eggs on rocks

Nice 10mi ride on the Sirrus today in sunshine by the Truckee River (Reno/Sparks). Bad crash mid Nov (on the Allez) resulting in a double fracture of the pelvis. Serious ouch! Bought a recumbent trike (could that be considered a hybrid?), can't fall off those so easily. Started riding again Jan 7 only to end up in the VA hospital again with blood clots in my legs and lungs — and pneumonia. Damn this getting old! But I'm ♫ back in the saddle again ♫

FINALLY was able to get back on my bikes over the weekend. Had been three weeks, and only one day then on a very marginal day. Weather has just been too cold. It doesn't help that I live in a cold valley that the temp craters just as soon as the sun sit behind the hill to my west. Temperature can easily fall 10-15F in thirty minutes. Since I get home just before sunset, it's basically futile. Now my version of cold versus another person's cold in say Michigan probable won't agree, but then my version of heat would likely not agree with them either. Was getting kinda

Still was able to ride Friday, Saturday, and Sunday this past weekend. Not real long rides, but just trying to get some of my bike legs back before the next cold spell whenever that comes. Still managed to get about 30 miles total for the weekend. I'll sure take it since I had only made it to a max of 16 miles/ride since I bought the first bike in mid-October before winter really disrupted my riding. Here are my two bikes. Sirrus Sport is the hybrid, and Motobecane 427HT for my mountain bike (stays at work where I have the option of some mild off road trails).
