Wife and I rode 45 miles yesterday for the New York City 5Boro bike tour. Had a blast on our newer bikes. Took frequent breaks to "stop and smell the roses" / selfies 
It was a great ride and the weather was perfect!

Did 27 miles on the C & O canal trail this past Sunday. It was a great ride! There's 180 miles for me to explore on this trail alone!

took my trek fx 7.4 on an 11 mile ride to lower manhattan yesterday battling a lot of wind. i made the trip in less than an hour and im going to try to get that time down even more

Yesterday I road with a group from my buddy's church on the Great Allegheny Passage. There were 35 of us, of all ages and experience levels. We drove the bikes to the Deal trail head southwest of Meyersdale, Pennsylvania where we began the ride. We split into groups of 12 and staggered our starts by about 10 minutes so that we wouldn't clog the trail up too badly. One mile uphill to the eastern continental divide which is the highest point on the trail, then 23 miles down hill into Cumberland, Maryland. A shuttle bus met us in Cumberland, took the drivers back to the cars, who then drove back to Cumberland to retrieve the rest of us and the bikes.
Now, I knew this was a down hill ride. I had no idea exactly how down hill it was. We dropped about 1800 feet over the 23 miles. It was steep. I don't have a ton of experience here, but I've ridden a couple hundred miles of rail trails over the last couple of years. I've not found anything this consistently steep. The pace was very slow as we didn't want to drop anybody. But it was nice to be able to stop and occasionally enjoy the scenery, snap some pics, and easily catch back up with the pack. It was a whole lot of fun, but since we only rode in one direction it felt like cheating. At one point it occurred to me that I hadn't pedaled in over a mile. I took my Giant instead of the Fuji. I was glad I did, as there were some rocks and soft spots on the trail.
You can arrange a similar (but shorter) one-way downhill experience using the steam train that runs between Cumberland and Frostburg.

I took my hybrid north on the Orange Line in the San Fernando Valley of Los Angeles to the Brown Creek bike path. It's quite fun to get out of the suburbs and feel like you are in a rural setting. This is my usual Sunday ride and I ride past the back of a ranch that has horses and ponies.

Currently these are rentable for hikers and bikers to get an idea of what it was to live in these. There's no running water, electricity and has a porta potty outside with firewood for heat.
Eating and Sleeping - Chesapeake & Ohio Canal National Historical Park (U.S. National Park Service)
I'm planning on staying at one of these next spring when I go on my full trail bike ride.

I may have rode incredibly slow this past Sunday..........but I taught my 9 yr old to conquer her fear of riding and we both went out a very nice nearly 4 mile ride. Surprised me, I thought it would have been too long for her. She was very comfortable with me riding behind her watching her.
She went out with her older brother yesterday and learned the hard way to avoid ditches and bushes. She and I went out again tonight and she really enjoyed it.

Hi folks,
Had a ride from the door step this morning - sunny, warm - bugs. Can't win, either too cold in winter or swallowing too many bugs in spring/summer. Awesome ride anyway..
This was the main climb, Kilburn White Horse, steep, hairpins (30/12 cassette) - café at the top, Lemon drizzle cake & a can of coke!
Bit of a plato up there and cracked a sustained 30mph along the top which was (seemed) forever, more probably 100yards.....

Today I spent my 52nd birthday in Erie, Pennsylvania riding the MUPs in Presque Isle state park with my wife and daughter. Erie is 100 miles north of home, but my daughter is a grad student at a local university. As expected on a holiday, the park was very busy. Trails were crowded, lots of families with kids running all over the trail, lots of bikes. I'm not complaining though. It was a perfect day, and the park is really a nice place to be. As we rode toward the far end of the island, the trail opened up quite a bit--I guess the walkers and families didn't wander that far away from the parking lots. I would bet that on some random Thursday morning, one could have a really nice ride there. We ended up doing an 11.25 mile loop. Later in the day, we caught an Erie Seawolves baseball game (Eastern League, Detroit Tigers class AA affiliate).
Overall, a really great day.

That Fuji should be fine on this trail. I've seen all aspects of bikes on this trail with what little I've ridden on it. The one that absolutely amazes me the most is an older guy riding some really beat up bike with the rusty chain and cow bell. He had a good stride going on.

My wife finished her first 20+ mile ride today on the Little Beaver Creek Greenway trail that runs between Lisbon and Leetonia, OH. I finally got her out with me, now she wonders why she waited so long. This is a favorite trail of mine--very much worth the 40 minute drive. I posted some pics on this thread from one of my rides last summer.
