Got in 36 miles in two rides this morning with my buddy Frankie. We were working on getting him to work on his speed while riding our temporary route when I got a text form my wife telling me the east entrance to Flatwoods was finally open.

We got to the vehicles, stopped the rides and loaded up to drive to the east entrance of the park. That's when I noticed that my Wahoo BlueSC was missing. I have no idea where it fell off. Good thing I have an old Garmin GSC-10 at the house.

As we were getting ready to leave, a cyclist came by telling us the connecting road from the park we were in to Flatwoods was open. Unloaded the bikes and did 16 more miles in Flatwoods. Wanted to do at least 50 today but a blister on my left heel ended that.

24.2 miles (38.9k). No ride yesterday, wind-rain I was grump(ier) all day. The first "official" day of Autumn was upon us with a vengeance. Full winter gear including new lobster gloves, and got caught in sprinkles on the way home. 3-4 months ago the city and NDF cut down a bunch of tress and brush. Today they closed a section of the bike path (while I was on it) to clean that all up. Better late than never.

Did 35 solo late yesterday, and 53 this morning with the GCC. Hard ride today, I'm sure I'll feel it later. I should be ready for the Santa Fe Century on 21-Oct.

Good news: getting colder up north, prime riding season here.

If it wasn't for the wind, it would have been the perfect day to ride a bike. I guess the wind heard that Flatwoods was opening at 0700 this morning and decided to come share in the festivities. Had a nice 40 mile solo ride on my good ole' usual route. Sure did miss it while the park was closed.

28 miles Saturday morning, trying to beat the heat and humidity. Beat the heat, but the humidity was over 80% before 9 am.

Saw groups from a couple of local fast clubs passing my neighborhood but decided not to join 'em. I can manage 16 mph over 20-30 miles now, but those folks are doing 17-18 mph over 50 miles, including hills. I'm not quite strong enough for that yet.

Tested a new freewheel, mostly different spacing and slightly better for hills -- 13-25 vs the original 13-24. I'll replace the 42T small chainring with a 39T next week. That should help with the roller coasters around here.

With a bunch of things on my Saturday To-Do List I first wanted to make sure I got a ride in, plus also wanted to beat the unseasonable heat and humidity.
I got in 80 minutes while going back to a new neighborhood that I started exploring a couple weeks ago. I managed to get turned around, because it's laid out like a bowl of spaghetti. But, I kept my eye on a nearby water tower, so I didn't get completely lost.
That's called Riding Without GPS.

We have neighborhoods like that. My granddad claimed the city just paved over wherever the cattle roamed around. But I see some newer neighborhoods have similar meandering streets. I suspect it's intended to discourage through traffic from folks who don't actually live there.

41 Miles, rode up to the Mt. Bachelor ski resort. 20 miles from my house. 20 miles 3,200' of of continuous climb. Took 2 hours to get there, 1 hour to get home. Lots of snow up there, my hands were cold, everything else was well covered. Picture is from a few miles from the finish.

40 miles in search for the lost sensor. I was surprised that we found it where we took a break stop on Friday. It was in a corner of the parking lot where not too many cars go through. Doesn't look like it got run over by a car but for some reason, I can't get it to stay turned on and transmit. For some reason, there was more than normal traffic out for a Sunday morning and the park had a runner overload.

Unlike last Sunday I felt like getting in a nice long ride this morning. The old legs even said yes. I started out early to beat the heat and incoming afternoon pop-up showers, and decided to ride out of town into the countryside. So I rode over into the next county and back. Then I decided to go up to another county and back, so it ended up being a 3.0 hour ride through 3 counties. The rolling hills were a good challenge on my Wabi single speed. After a month on this bike it's time to get back on the geared road bike.

A shade under 22 miles on 9/23. Hot and humid. I've been fighting chafing and/or saddle sore and jock itch all Summer, but no issues yesterday. Legs were my limiter for the first time this year - it's been respiration all year until now.

40 miles on my 1991 Specialized Team Stumpjumper riding slicks on paved roads. I did 30 yesterday on the same bike. I'd forgotten how much fun an old school mountain bike is. The hand positions could be a bit better but the bar ends really help.

21.1 miles (34.0k). 44° to start, winter gear, but the rest of the week is supposed to be warmer (uh-huh). No ride Sat, RA rendered my right thumb useless. Couldn't even work the computer thumb mouse (working it left handed was a challenge). Legs felt rubbery after missing a day.

My son's bike shop organized a group fall ride, about 75% on dirt roads. There were basically two options, two 40km or so loops you could either do the first one, or both, or all of the first and part of the second with a shortcut back to the campground. My wife and I did the whole thing, 88.9 km, with 1321 m of elevation change. It was a riot! Our house was at the 35 km point which coincided with lunch, so we were a pit stop for food and beer. This was meant as fun ride, not a performance event. There were 37 participants, all in their 20s. My wife and I, at 59, were the seniors. Not only did we keep up with the pack (19.0 km/h average speed), many of them young whippersnappers dropped out early :-)

We used our mountain bikes. One road, which was closed and is now really only a trail, was suitable only for mountain bikes, and we were able to do it. My son stashed a case of beer on the road as a reward. Others with less suitable bikes were given a paved and hard-packed dirt alternative. A few attempted the ride, about 75% dirt, on road bikes, and there was at least one flat as a result, but the young lady was quick and efficient at changing her tube, and to her credit she finished the entire ride on her road bike in spite of some rough gravel in places.

Overall it was the biggest hoot we've had on bikes in a long time. It was fun not to take ourselves too seriously, and being with the young 'uns was infectious and made us feel 20 years younger!

The only thing, even though it was a "fall" ride, the temps were in the high 20s (that's in Celsius... i.e. mid-80s). Today the temperature made it up to 30C, and we're already several days into fall. Remember this is in Quebec, Canada... forecast is the same until late in the week when temps become more seasonable (mid-teens).

13 local miles this afternoon with two hills. Had ridden every day in September until yesterday - my excuse is youngest son got married in Brown County State Park. No bike or time to ride. Did see a lot of folks on mountain bikes. The park is a mecca for mountain bikers.

40 miles on a club ride this morning. This is a M-W-F morning training ride with most participants being retirees. I had the day off today and look forward to being doing this ride regularly starting January 2019. Flat ride with only hill being an I-65 overpass.

12.25 miles the fall weather is coming on here in the PNW. It threatened to rain the entire ride but waited until I go home to actually put some water on the ground.

Seven miles Tuesday evening, quick sprint for errands before it rained. Averaged 17 mph, which is fast for me. The prospect of riding in rain on skinny slick tires is a good motivator.
