Not super vintagey, but the Gresham OR Habitat for Humanity ReStore has a Trek 1000 tandem in nice shape. I don't have a tape measure with me, but I'd guess the captain's cockpit is 54-56. Shimano Deore DX rear derailleur. They're asking $275.

$250 is what my local frame builder quoted me to make an adjustable stoker stem like that one

Yeah, awesome deal for someone, but that's a T100. I found this about it:

The T100 was one of three levels of tigged steel tandems Trek made in
the early to mid 1990's. The frames of the T100 and T200 were
identical, and I think the T50 was similar. The T100 was set up as a
hybrid, with 700c wheels, flat bars, etc, while the T200 was equipped
with drop bars. You can find specs and info on them at <https://
www.vintage-trek.com/>. My wife and I own a 1992 T100 that is built
with drop bars and a number of other differences from original spec.
It was a frame that we had built up as we wanted it -- it came in a
size that allowed me (very tall) and my wife (not so tall) to ride
(no need for stoker standover) -- a rare combination in stock tandem
frames.

It mimics Santana's geometry, and is a stable, stiff ride that we
like a lot. Not the lightest thing in the world, but comfortable and
very durable - a great touring tandem that is perfectly at home on
dirt roads as well as paved. Lots of clearance for wide tires and
fenders. Trek overestimated the market at the time, so had a lot of
these left over in the States, so deals were available. Partly
because of that, here, anyway, they are really pretty cheap on the
used market. I think it's a good bike and a great value, the latter
helped along by the fact that tandem snobs tend to look down on them
(for no good reason in my book).

If you have specific questions, feel free to ask.

Except the very smallest Super Course frame, only made that year, the points of the Capella lugs would not allow room the heron headbadge so they used Bocama.

only detail I can (barely) make out in these pix is the "willow leaf" stay cap which is not a clue pointing to Motobecane but more like a "Micmo product" so Gitane or a relative.
Certainly worth investigating!

Nope except that this one is an aluminium frame because of the welds thickness but not a steel frame

it's a very nice-looking frame, but is that a steel or a bonded ALU fork (like a Kinesis or such)?

Weird to see words posted by me many moons ago elsewhere be posted here by someone else -- still true, though our T100 has gone on to other pastures years ago.
