Kid falls 9 stories and survives.

One lucky kid. Story suspects the kid was playing on a MTB and went over the railing. Umm... something serious bugs me with this story. You would have thought the kid would have been taught not to do something like that on the balconey. Inside the home fine. If you fall you land on the carpet/floor. Outside if you fall you run a good risk of going over the rails.

Balcony survivor was likely playing on bike: police

A five-year-old boy who survived miraculously after falling nine floors was probably playing on a mountain bike when he toppled over the balcony railing, police said Thursday.

Young-Jin Kim is expected to make a full recovery. He fell from the apartment balcony Wednesday morning, landing on his back on a grassy courtyard just after 10 a.m.

Det. Brian Ritchie told the Hamilton Spectator that police believe the boy climbed onto a bike on the balcony and tumbled over the metre-high railing.

"He's probably the luckiest person I've ever come across to have gone down 90 feet and hit soft ground,'' said Ritchie. "If it had been two weeks ago, it might have been a different story.''

Paramedics rushed the boy to McMaster University Medical Center with two broken legs, a broken pelvis and other internal injuries. The child underwent a three-hour surgery to repair his legs. He suffered no internal or neurological injuries.

The boy's father told CTV News in a phone interview from the hospital that he believes it's a miracle the child survived.

The child's mother was said to be cleaning the apartment when she noticed her son was missing. She then heard moaning and screams. The mother looked over the balcony and saw her boy lying on the ground.

The family is from Korea and moved to Hamilton three years ago.

The Hamilton Police Child Abuse unit is investigating, as is the Children's Aid Society.

With a report from CTV's John Musselman

END POST.

i dont care what ground you fall onto from 90 feet, thats more than luck right there. i had a friend who died april 1st by falling off a 3 story parking ramp. this is 3 times that height, AND its a little kid.

Pfft, in America, that kid could've survived at least 15 stories.

If he is anything like my soon to be 5 year old I would keep the balcony locked with multiple locks.

From 90 feet water would be a hard surface to hit. Try landing on your back from a 10 foot diving board.

As he passed a second story balcony one of his friends saw him and asked "Hey, how's it going?"

The kid replied "So far, so good."

Wow, even a kid-shaped indent on the ground, I thought that only happened in cartoons.

It doesn't seem like a child abuse investigation is necessary. I'd call it child neglect. It's a miracle the kid survived five years with stupid parents.

The kid was 5. It doesn't appear from the story that he was riding the bike, but rather was climbing on it when he fell over the railing.
