bar con vs bar end
I'm building an old cannondale frame with aerobars and I was wondering what the difference is between bar con and bar end shifters. Supposedly the bar cons are ratcheted- is that similar to indexed. My main question is what are the pros and cons of each. thanks

From my extensive reading (tr. I think I saw it in a magazine or maybe the internet) the difference between bar end and bar con shifters is that the latter is a particular name for bar end shifters owned by a single company and everyone else has to call theirs bar end shifters, unless they can come up with a clever name themselves.

I run old SunTour bar end friction shifters on one of my bikes. Non-indexed, which I prefer, 'cause there aren't any adjustments. If I were building up a fancy TT bike, I might want indexed shifters.

thanks for the help- I think I want indexed, but thats just because of some previous bad experience with ghost-shifting friction shifters.
