Fuji has come a long way in the past few years!
Is it just me or is Fuji getting back on it's game from it's previous designs? The current SST only came out in '10 and the Altamira in '11 and I think they're fine designs finally using many technologies like press-fit bottom brackets, tapered head tubes, thin steat stays, huge chain stays, and carbon dropouts. They also are finally bringing some of their own in-house technologies in use like RIB reinforcements, and compression molding (others have done this before, just not many).
Before these they had the SL-1 and Team as their top-tier bikes. Just me or did they not compete to other manufacturer's offerings?
P.S. I do have to say It seems like they've always done a good job with the Roubaix though.

Since 1919...
Smart remark aside, I agree, their latest offerings are a cut above IMO.

Ive been impressed by them at my local PB store as well as high end LBS that caters to racers and tri-geeks.

Former Hoarder
Fuji fell off the scale about 10 years ago for several years. They had one frame - the 853 steel Roubaix - that was pretty good and when they stopped making it around '04 or so, they had nothing left that was any good. They became a department store brand. It was '06 or so when they (re) committed to upper level quality. It took a few years but the perception has really changed for the better.

That's exactly right. I was shopping for a new bike in '04, and I took a look at them and said "What daHell!?" and kept on looking elsewhere.

I rented a Fuji back in the '06 time frame when I was on an extended trip to the Bay Area. I didn't care for the paint (neon green striping). It was the first carbon bike I had ridden. I remember being a little disappointed at it's acceleration (probably my problem, not the bike) but I recall one particular turn that won me over. It was a slightly downhill, sweeping left corner...I was carrying more speed than I wanted and just as I entered the corner I could see a lot of rough patches on the road. I leaned in and the bike went through like it was on rails. Ever since then I've kept my eye out for the opportunity to pick on up.

With all the talk of the older Team series being great, it seems Fuji wasn't as behind as I thought they were. Just not as advertised in the same as others.

well...now I'm super confused...it looks like I'm thinking of this 2008 CCR 3.
I see it's the more entry level carbon bike...but still, I was impressed with the handling! In researching this I came across a few for sale...too bad for the fugly paint!

I've gotta say, after working with my new Altamira I'm very impressed with Fuji's construction. I peaked inside the headtube and start of the downtube and found it was very smooth in comparison to other carbon frames I've seen. It seems that the paint won't flake off easily like some other brands work. And the design!
I'll definitely leave some thoughts on the ride once I get many more miles on. Fuji is underestimated I think.

They makes some nice bikes but they're a long way from the Japanese company that they were twenty years ago. Fuji is the main brand for Advanced Sports, an American distributor that also owns the Kestral, Breezer and Terry brands. All of their stuff is manufactured by subcontractors in Taiwan and China (as most every manufacturer does today). Oval is their house brand of components which is why you often see Oval wheels and brakes on their bikes (like Bontrager for Trek, MOST for Pinarello, Roval for Specialized etc). Advanced also distributes / subcontracts carbon and aluminum bikes for many other brands including the higher end Scattante carbon frames PB sells.
Also, that $4k Ultegra Di2 bike is way too expensive, IMO.

Icy, what do you think of your Altamira? I'm looking at picking up a 1.0 when I get back from Georgia for my new job training in 2 weeks. And yes, the Team model was freakin' awesome. I had '09 Team RC that I put aSRAM Red group and SRAM S60 wheels. Such a comfortable bike. I'm hoping to get the Altamira set up the same way, as far as fit goes.

Tell me it's Bianchi's, Specialized, Giant's, Felt's, Cannondale's, etc... fault as well. Look at their MSRP for Ui2 full carbon bikes.
