Goodness - nice save! That's a very nice and fine riding bike; I have a '73 but it sure isn't as nice as that one. Did your brother have kids? If so, maybe keeping it for them would be best.
Sorry for your loss.

Added a this couple to the herd this week:
An immaculate '84 Corsa. A little dirty, but I've yet to find the first scratch:
And this rather scruffy '80 Competition:

Up-dated pics after finishing off my Super Tourer to ST Road Bike resto
New International model take-offs in 1974 (Bike Shop accomplished) which included Campy hubs, pedals, front DR and shifters, Brooks Pro saddle and GB drops. Ditched the fenders but kept the Stronglight and Huret Jubilee rear DR drive package.

Picked this up a few weeks ago on Apocalypse Day. I've still got some plans for it, including a drum/dyno front hub, and a 3-speed coaster hub (it's currently a single-speed w/ coaster). At the moment, it's got a modern dual-pivot caliper and inexpensive Weinmann alloy wheel in front. Scored the Brooks Flyer (w/ Selle Anatomica mod) a few days ago for a price I couldn't pass up. I also moved the Topeak Explorer rack from my other bike (an old Columbia 3-speed) after I got frustrated with that bike, so here's my 1970s(?) Sports as of yesterday:

Yes, if you really must have a chainguard ring, please make it a Stronglight. The prettiest by a mile.

I have to agree. In fact, the original chain guard was removed day one, so I sourced a replacement, longer fasteners and the correct crank spindle, from a fellow member.

I knew someone would comment on that Oddly, that's the only way I've been able to get comfortable with it, so far. The width is perfect, but at any other angle, I was running into almost-pinching from the Selle An-Atomica slot - oddly, that extreme angle is more comfortable. I read the blog page on the Brooks site the other night, about proper saddle fitment, and am tempted to try it, but I'm afraid to lose what I have. Maybe I'll take a sharpie and mark the current position on the clamp, and try it leveled out a bit. I've always ridden nose-up, though.

Not for nothin' I think if your comfortable with the saddle's attitude as such that's great but...there's always a but. I think it is suggesting the top tube is a bit too short for you. Northroad bars, even though upright are not bolt upright bars, but are intended to be ever so slightly aggresive in posture. The saddle position suggests you are sitting bolt-upright. I would suggest on of these possiblities:
Set the saddle back further on the clamp if you can
Install a slightly longer stem
Install a seat post with some set back
Some times a cm or two can make a great fit a really great fit!
Here is a picture of an older ridder making some good speed in comfort on a Raliegh with Northroads. You can see even from this angle he is upright, comfortable but still a little aggressive. This rider uses his 10 speed Sprite for regular 50 mile rides and Centuries! Not bad for pushing 70!

Definitely not bolt-upright for me...I guess I just like the way it feels like it's keeping me from sliding forward? Dunno. Anyway, I tweaked it a bit last night, and it's at a much less extreme angle now. I got in maybe 10-12 miles of urban riding on it today, and don't have too much to complain about. I'm gonna leave it this way for at least a few days and see how I feel about it. I did use a sharpie to mark the more extreme position on the saddle clamp, though.

Anyway, after many (enjoyable) hours of rebuilding, replacing, cleaning & polishing, and a little over $100, here's the result:

Nice job! That Gran Sport looks like it just came off the showroom floor.

1972 Track Pro
Getting close to finishing this Jewel. I need to add a link or two to the chain and get some Bar tape, and Pista Pedals. Eventually, I would like to get some period correct rims as well.

No. It looks better than any '75 Gran Sport looked on any showroom floor.
