I recorded the bike accident

We were doing a bicycle tour with my friend. The cyclist on the right broke the handlebar in front of me and fell. Maybe it would have been a worse bike accident if I wasn't there. It could hit the ground, maybe the car might be passing.

Yes, that could have been much worse. Started a U-turn without checking what was behind him?

Had one like this. Friend & I were on a long ride in a place that was unfamiliar to me. After an hour or so on the bikes, riding down the road, he says, "Let's go to Dairy Queen." I said "sure...". Dumbass lurches his bike into a turn... right into mine. There was a Dairy Queen two or three blocks down the road to the right, that I didn't see.

I have definitely had a lot of close calls like this. Now, if we’re riding 2x, the person on the inside has to say “we are turning” and the person on the outside has to follow what the inside person does.

Yes the dude turned without a signal but I have myself avoided disaster many times by calling out to cyclists I thought may be getting ready to turn in front of me. The dude with the recorder seems to be deep in conversation with his ride partner. Really should have paying more attention to his surroundings.

A "heads up" or "passing on your left" will do the trick.

In all honesty, I think both riders are at fault in the video. Pretty slow speed crash but I myself at any speed, especially higher speeds will alert any and all cyclists ahead of me that seem to be a bit suspicious.

The guy had no clue, give him one!

How about some headlights and taillights and helmets for the next time we go riding at dawn or dusk in greater Istanbul? Or perhaps this was a trip to some extreme northern latitude and it was noon? Either way, not judging here, please understand, but, as someone who rides almost exclusively at night, I really, really advise lights and helmets when riding at dusk or dawn or in low, flat light. If that giant truck had been coming the other way and had been just a bit over his side of the road, this could have ended very differently.

Thank you for your comment. I thought if he would return from the moment I saw the cyclist. But I didn't think it could be so sudden. I have not crashed anyway. The tire fell because it slipped. But of course I had to be more careful. So there would be zero contact.

Thank you for your comment. We started the bicycle tour at noon and it was evening until we returned home. I am not driving at night because there is no lamp. But when the tour takes a long time, it gets dark. It is necessary to ride a bicycle considering the bad possibilities. I am also someone who uses a helmet. My friend had the taillight. He has a helmet but he only uses it in mountain landings. I agree with you. It is always necessary to be fully equipped.

I see you call it an accident, my bad. But if 2 moving objects make contact, I'd call that a crash but I am not an authority on accident/ crash variances.

But yes, be careful, the movements of others don't seem sudden but they are, very much. Got to watch others around you. Only takes a blink of an eye to result in an accident as you now know.

I always, even if it is not necessary, I always shout something friendly to alert other cyclists I am passing and present.

LEFT! ..................Passing on your left!...........Hi there! ..........anything so they know I am there.

That guy's lucky 1) you were a bicycle and not a fast moving car, and 2) you had quick reflexes.

I dont understand why this was kept and posted. Its 10minutes of watching people slowly riding around a town at night and 30 seconds of someone mistakenly cutting in front of another cyclist and causing a crash. That sort of thing is hardly uncommon and it was quite uneventful when watching it.
Maybe I am missing something, but I just dont understand why the effort to upload the video to youtube and then to post it here was made.

I ride a few times a week with a group of teens- something dumb like this happens probably once a week for 5 months. Maybe I am desensitized to how bad/crazy/exciting the video was.
