Next stop Flèche Wallone. Not sure how he'll do there but I'm looking forward to it.

The world is his oyster, but I think if he aspires to make his mark on the WT, he needs to ride at the WT level as an apprentice before he leads. But I admit, I'm no expert and I do know that the WT chews people up and demoralizes them if they get in the wrong situation.
I think very few team leader/GC guys were not recruited as such. They may play a Dominique role, but that is not why they are on the team. Froome was a GC guy while working for Wiggans.
Like Froome, who was cultivated years before, and many lbs heavier that his TdF debut, the GC thing I think can be recognized early.

The transition approach. In 2020, two UCI 2.Pro and two top 10s.

Not a great showing for McNulty or the Americans overall at the UCI worlds

https://usacycling.org/article/kuss-...-championships

McNulty did better in the ITT, finishing 29th, 2'52'' off the winning pace.

McNulty is America’s greatest hope at a GC. Unfortunately his stable mates are guys like Pogacar and Bernal so good
luck with that.

8th in GC after today. A strong opening TT helped, but he was up there with the big boys today. It's a long race for a kid, but I'm hoping to be pleasantly surprised.

It would be great to see him stay in the top 10. Is UAE hoping to have a GC contender that they will protect in this race? Or are they there mostly for stage wins?

Stage wins, as Pogacar et al went to town in the Tour.

Good to see another young American displaying some promise. Note that very few of them live up to the highest expectations. It's a rough sport.

Tejay used to participate in the Road Forum here from his cat 3 - 2 - 1 days, and when he hit the scene he had a ton of momentum and so many thought he'd be the next American great. Don't get me wrong, he's a great talent for certain, but I think a lot of us had visions of him being a perennial podium contender in the Grand Tours. Similar expectation with Craddock and Stetina. Let's not put too much pressure on our young with massive expectations. Hoping to see him racing for as long as he chooses to, and hoping he has success.

tejay's had a helluva career so far and there's more to come. i know slcbob and myself and maybe one or two others have occasionally poked fun at him but dude has brought it.
feel he may have gotten a little miscast/overused early on. not that he didn't command respect but a reminder after his ride in the 2019 tdf stage seven (broke his hand waay early
on in the stage and finished the looong stage) showed how brutal this sport can be and renewed my respect for his dedication/efforts.

hoping brandon can finish in the top twenty and give the other teams more to worry about in the future,

That Peter guy has been coming to SoCal for a decade. That Peter guy would do group rides with some of those same juniors he's racing against now.

Brandon did not used to post his power. I'm wondering if this is now a UAE thing/marketing thing.
But it opened up some old history I had not seen before.

He gave us some good moments in the Giro, but today on stage 18, he folded.

I look forward to his performance on the final time trial, but he's out of GC contention for sure and I don't expect to see him as a significant grand tour GC threat going forward. Probably his future is as a TT specialist and as a strong domestique. But I wonder if he could develop into a classics riderr?

In a year or two, it won't be his personality that determines whether he is offerred a contract. So he's not going down the road of domestique, he's going to have to establish some other bona fides.

His ITT performance indicates that he is a good bet for the future. While some 21 and 22 year olds can win a GT, most can't and we see them peaking much later. He may have peaked, but I use that 25 (out of white jersey age) as when to see where they really are.
