The top three bikes would quickly be at least a pound lighter with upgraded wheelsets but that takes time and money. Lighter wheels do make the bikes feel so much better underneath you no matter what their total weight is.

Incidentally, the Raleigh has the skinniest tires and most modern wheel set in my fleet. And yeah, I could definitely lose a Raleigh's weight from around my middle and still not be actually skinny.

Apart from that, I have many bikes that all fall in the 24-28lb range.

Bike "weight" has always been imho akin to 1/4 mile dragstrip et's for 60's and 70's musclecars = highly subjective and rarely accurate.

RiddleOfSteel

All bikes are ready-to-ride and usually include waterbottle cages mounted. All have pedals (Shimano SPD mountain for ease of commuting and walking when off bike). This is a sampling of some of them. Big bikes can be light, too! And I like them with enough weight (over 18-19 lb), otherwise they get a bit harsh and 'flighty' over crummy pavement when they're really light. Maybe there is a golden ratio of rider to bike weight? Like 9:1 as the 22-23 lb bikes feel really good. The Peloton feels good too, but those few pounds less are noticeable--lean and very fast.

The only one that I have gotten weighed. The 1977 Le Tour II. The mechanic was voicing numbers in the high 30's. Came in at 30 lbs 4 oz. this includes a full handlebar bad, saddle bag, Brooks Pro and fenders.

Tommasini Racing, 58cm, 21.2# as ridden. SL tubing (I'm pretty sure), with Wolber Aspin tubular rims and Shimano A520 pedals: (I think I got 21.1 before - EDIT: I've added a bottle cage since this photo, so that's the difference). Saddle and pedals are the only things not period correct.

Just finished building my '73 SC after paint. I got 26 lbs with Garmin and plastic bracket, bottle cage. No pump or saddle bag. I was surprised it was that low.

Weighed multiple times on digital bathroom scale with no change in number...

My prelude is 24 lbs with mirror, computer bracket/magnets, 2 cages, and a little bird trinket I've put on there.
Its 25 lbs with the computer added and full saddle bag.
Iv changed the stem/bars/levers & saddle so far.

When I first got it and it was still all stock aside from the 2 cages/tires, it came out at 24 lbs with none of the above added accessories.

Daily commuter - 58 cm 1980 Peugeot PSV Super Vitus with tout Mavic, fenders, saddlebag, lights, lock, spare tube, tools, pump, Gatorskins, etc: about 35 lb as-ridden.

Hill bike - 52 cm 1992 Cannondale R1000 with tout Mavic, HiE hubs/tubular rim, light cockpit, etc: about 17.5 lb.

Swiss Army Knife Roadie - 56 cm 1997 Vitus 997 carbon tubes with all silver Campagnolo Record/Record Titanium 10 speed incl triple cranks and long cage RD, carbon post, Mavic Open Pros: about 22 lb.

Vintage Roadie - 58 cm 1978 Raleigh Team Pro 753 with all period Campagnolo Super Record, Ergal tubular rims, 3ttt cockpit, hollow pin chain, some Ti bolts, etc: about 18.7 lb.

Have a 56 cm Look Bernard Hinault 753 frame waiting for a retro-roadie build with modern Campagnolo Super Record 11 speed, carbon tubular rims, carbon post and cockpit, etc. Hoping to get <17 lb.

This without the rear rack and bag weighs 26.2lb. It was weighed with fenders/pedals/saddle/lights/dyno hub/empty water bottles and cages.

The rear rack is a Tubus Fly and weighs 8 oz. The bag with tolls etc weigh a hair over 2 lbs. All weighed on a hanging digital scale.

As seen here, my Ron Cooper weighs 22.5 lbs. Loaded up with pump, full water bottle and tool kit. 24.8 lbs.

I needed to know an accurate weight of the Medici for our flights up to New Hampshire, and back. With the pedals, bottle cage and all the incidentals attached it weighed 22.5 lbs. (Since everything went into the bicycle flight case, I decided to just leave it intact, and then I also had an as ridden weight.)

This is with the 36h low flange NR hubs, Mavic GP4 rims and Vittoria Rally 700X25 sew ups, a Selle San Marco Concor Superlegerra suede saddle, and all NR groups. To me it doesn't feel this heavy, even with the feeling from the 17lbs CAAD 10 in my memory cells. The Tommasini Prestige weighs 21.0 lbs, in the same ready to ride configuration, and components.

Panasonic DX-5000, 1988, 56cm: 22.0# now (Araya CTL-370 clinchers, 600 tricolor groupset, SI Carbonio saddle), 22.9# with frame pump, loaded seatbag, empty bottle, as ridden. As bought, with Ambrosio 19 Extra Super Elite rims, mostly of 105 components, Mundialita saddle: 23.1#, and 24# with pump/seatbag). When I get around to swapping the M520 pedals to A600s it'll be under 22#, which is about as good as it's going to get unless I go to tubular rims/tires.



It's amazing to me that the Tommasini feels lighter (a few posts above), even though it's only slightly lighter, thanks to the tubular wheelset. My fully loaded, ready to ride CAAD10 comes in at 19.5#, so that's my point of reference.

EDIT TO ADD: It's nice to see all these real-world weights with different configurations of similar bikes.
