Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Yep, I'm going driving my turbo Subaru to the mountains to ride my bike as far away from the malls and websites as I can get.

Tried it out and it works nicely. Just picked it up tonight. No need for training rear tire or quick release or thru-axle adaptor, front tripod takes QR or thru-axle It is pretty slid , weighs only 14 lbs, and folds up for storage nicely. Just what I was looking for.

Will report back when I've got some miles on it.

I've never bought anything on BF/CM, but I'm not really a "gotta get the deals" kind of dude. But I also think it's funny when this whole thing upsets people enough to take a trip on that specific day to do something outdoors or whatever. Is that just to prove a point? Please tell me you don't post it on social media to show everyone how anti-establishment you are.

I'll just do what I always do on any other day and go about my usual business.

Great. Now if I want to prove how coolly undetached from the whims of the sheeple I am I can't go shopping on Black Friday, retreat to the wilderness, or go about my usual business. Any suggestions?

Not really a BF/CM sale but I bought a Stages Ultegra 6800 crank arm on clearance. $399 shipped. Still kinda expensive for a tool i will essentially play around with and for me it’s really all about improvement as racing is not a priority. I will get the training with power book and with heart rate and the other metrics I think training will be fun and I will learn a lot.

@FeltF2Tarmac grats on the power meter. That's exactly what I had my eye on too, but it's a bridge too far just at the moment. There will be other deals. I guess as long as I have my HR monitor I'll now how I'm doing, even if without a power meter I don't know precisely what I'm doing.

I'll probably order some brake hoods for my c&v Fuji. Other than that, I'm just going riding.

I'm so anti-establishment that I'm going to sit around all day listening to music by the late Joe Strummer whilst drinking beer from metal cans.

Rode the bike around Thursday evening; it was surreal to bike throughout our empty University town only to stumble upon HUGE crowds at the mall and other big name retailers scattered around the town.

On a side note I've been looking out for decent pair of clipless shoes that will work for my centuries in the summer and xc riding in the winter. Any thoughts?

It's not about not doing any of the above... it's about not bragging about it on social media to make sure that everyone knows, which only proves how much you care. Like the 30-year-old woman my wife knows who made a FB post to brag how adult she was for throwing out all her old finisher medals. Just do it; posting about it just makes it look like you want attention for it. It's the same principle as the jokes about how vegetarians, or people without televisions, will invent an excuse to tell you about it 30 seconds after meeting you.

On-topic, I got AG a Hed Jet Disc from MBS. It's funny how even their non-BF prices are lower than most of those wheels ask for on eBay or the like.

You left out the Crossfit folks and the ones following the Paleo diet. As I recall the joke goes like this:

"How do you tell who the Vegans and Crossfitters are at a party?"
"Don't worry about it; they'll let you know."

What's MBS? Something bike store, obviously. I ended up not ordering or locally buying anything at all on BF. I coolly and undetached from the whims of the sheeple went out for a ride, then just chilled out for the rest of the day. It's not that there weren't bike things I wanted to buy. It's just that after a small flurry of little purchases subsequent to the arrival of my Lynskey three months after I ordered it, I deemed it wiser not to push my luck and risk disturbing the unwritten "there shall be no mutual interrogation regarding small purchases by either of us so long as it's kept within some ill-defined but reasonable limits" arrangement with my better half.

Yep, same principle. And there are others.

MyBikeShop.com; they have a lot of really nice deals on Hed wheels. And we wanted to match the others in the house. One nice things about my wife is she legitimately doesn't care when new toys of whatever sort show up, so they do sometimes. I didn't get any other BF toys because I haven't finalized my decisions for the parts for my bike. Oh and still not being sold on needing a new TV.

Go for it! There is a 2017 model listed as an 18. The real 18 have Ultegra 8070 DI2 and components and also have better wheels. These are the rocket red/black and the white models.

Ordered two Polar water bottles with the upgraded cap for just over $16 and free shipping. I tried to avoid cyber Monday but this was a good deal and the fact my daughter stole (kidding sort of) my two bottles for school sports.

I took advantage of Ibex's "Additional 10% off of 20% off" sale and bought one more Woolie1 longsleeve zip-neck baselayer.
