2020 FX 3 Can't even be Ordered in America
The FX Rep on teh website told me they are waiting to dump more of the Older FX 3's before the New 2020 is released : An upgrade they made for 2020 is Internal cabling : They told me it could be 2-4 months before you can purchase one here in the States : He says Just buy the 4

They have also moved from a triple crank, to a 46/30 double and have lost over 1/2 a pound in weight.

According to the Trek web site the the FX 4 SPORT is about a kilo (2.2lb) lighter because it's more road oriented with more than just the crank change. Besides the weight there is also the switch from MTB to road gearing, The lowest gear is 26x34 on FX 3 and 34x34 on FX 4. Plus the the change from Alivio to Tiagra rear derailuer which means more chain slap if you plan to go off road.

What about this in the 2020 FX 3 ? https://www.trekbikes.com/au/en_AU/b...olorCode=black It sounds like you are saying the More you go up in the FX model the more strictly road oriented the bike is.
I currently have a 2019 Dual Sport 2 : Went for a short 3 mile ride on dirt trails yesterday. Handled just SO SO .
When I got back to teh Pavement I could tell I had dirt in the chain : When I road home it shifted terrible . In fact I couldn't even use the Middle Sprocket :
Today I took off the wheels and gave it a good cleaning . Used Compressor . Still hear dirt in things :
I've dirk bike rode for years : Didn't buy a Pedal Bike to spend all afternoon cleaning it off for a 30 minute ride. Thinking need to stick to pavement : Which is all most of who I ride with does : Where I live there's 100's of Bike paths : Close enough to peddle to the longest one : Which is almost 100 miles and expanding each year. You pay $15.00 per/year for a tag to us it . Which is well worth it. Well taken care of . Majority of it is concrete and where you cross valleys and water they've used composite instead of treated lumber : Much nicer trail then the State Taxpayer Supported ones are.
Would appreciate your input from the posted link Here AGAIN: https://www.trekbikes.com/au/en_AU/b...olorCode=black

From what you describe the FX4 Sport would be best followed by the FX3.

is the 2020 trek 3 more geared toward road? $1k+ for the 4 sport seems like a lot to spend on a hybrid.

Technically I would guess 46/30 isn't Road Oriented : In Michigan , At least on the West side by teh Lake There's very few Road Bikes : Even teh Shops have 10/1 Hybrids and Mountain type models and a Handful of Roadies : The Sales Guy told me Hybrids are a Gold mine for the Baby Boomers : Which have all the Money to spend We have really well maintained Trails along Lake Michigan., Most seem to be oriented towards the Hybrid : Last nite a few of us went for a short 12 mile ride : All we saw was Couples and Single Women . All on Hybrids :
