PNW folks: plan to stay indoors for the next few days

Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

PNW folks: plan to stay indoors for the next few days

CA smoke is moving north, BC smoke is moving south. Winds are blowing from the east, bringing in smoke from Chelan etc. Until now the particulate matter has been mostly aloft but these easterly winds will bring dangerous air quality to the surface. The situation may improve Wednesday or Thursday.

I work in an office building and not near the windows. Every time I've gone outside today, I'm shocked at how much the air quality has deteriorated. It's worse than it's been this year in Seattle, but not quite as bad as it ever got last summer. 100 yards away everything is brownish gray and colorless.

It didn't seem that bad when I rode into work yesterday morning, but I went outside around noon yesterday I could not see the horizon! Just gray and disgusting.

Thankfully the wind picked up and moved things a bit for me so the ride home from work was tolerable.

I'M NOT GETTING ON THE TRAINER!!!!!!!!

At least until November.

August is smoke season here in Bend. Last year was very bad. I was riding with a N95 respirator for 5 weeks. I'll probably need to start using it soon. I rode today without one, The first time you ride with a respirator they feel hot and uncomfortable, but after 30 minutes you don't notice it, You can get them at Lowes or most hardware stores
