Frame quality - paint chipping away
I recently bought a Raliegh One Way bike. I think it's 2010. I've disassembled it to clean up and update some of the parts. I noticed the frame has paint chipping off near the bottom bracket. Should I be concerned about it? Is there anything I can do?

Someone dropped the chain and jammed it between the chainstay and crank or chainring. There apparently is a dent as well as the paint damage. Clean it up and put some touch up paint on it. Nothing else to be done and unlikely to cause you problems.

On second thought, since you have it apart, you might want to give the frame a bath in oxalic acid and then use Framesaver or similar on the innards.

You bought a used bike..
You going to send it out for repaint (powder coat?), or just smooth the bare spots to bare rust free steel
and spot touch up?
and spot touch up?

I looked at some quotes for repainting and at the price I was quoted I'd rather just buy a new frame. I think I'll just touch it up and then ride for a while until I find out what I really want and then sell it.

If you were to want to use a rust inhibitor inside the tubing don't do it before powder coating (or any painting).
If the same crank/rings are to be used check for ring teeth wear. Badly worn rings can increase the likelihood of chain suck. Andy
