[QUOTE=Spaghetti Legs;23036107][QUOTE=zookster;23035983]Lefties Rule! Beautiful Ibanez. I lust after a Gretsch hollow body (and will have one someday). My latest purchase was this Epiphone SG.

Here’s my SG, ordered it special from a shop in Goldsboro, NC when I was in high school. I paid around $600 of my hard earned golf course mowing money, which is more than I paid for the Ibanez yesterday. Money well spent though.

Me, my gitfiddle, and my dog

D’Addario strings - I am almost 10% sure they are made in Italy

Funny I am right handed but my high school buddy played lefty and it felt right when I picked his up and plinked around on it. My dad was lefty but played righty.

I see that guitar, and I think 1979-80. How close am I?

My first guitar was a 'Liverpool' red strat copy that I found in a 'gomi' pile in Japan (think free thrift store on the side of the road that usually has really high quality, just older, stuff), and traded that and a Washburn bass in for a '79 The SG. Ever since then its been a love affair with the SG (even though I showed photos of the LP). Have probably owned about a dozen or more SGs, and I'm down to about 6 or so right now - 3 or 4 Gibbies, a couple Epis, and a scratch built.

I bought it new in ‘85, maybe ‘84. SG probably has the most distinctive sound I can think of in a guitar.

What I enjoy about them is that they can be used for anything - blues, jazz, classic rock, metal, punk, etc. They do it all! They don't have as wide of a tonal palette as say a LP, but they cut through a mix well, they are comfortable, and they are the best 'player friendly' guitar in the entire world (even though they are the worst guitar in the world for neck-joint construction).

^ Is that Buck Dharma playing a beach side gig? Thank you, thinktubes ! He's amazing.

I was also thinking Tommy Iommi as an SG player.

BITD I had hoped that Redheads International would pursue such a course but unfortunately they did not.
Being a lefty, you start off adapting to your right handed surroundings. Scissors, school desks, notebooks, etc. create improvisors and not many militants.

I sold off some bike stuff and bought an Ampeg Portaflex 20 watt tube bass amp about a year ago. Also got a new speaker for my silverface Bassman 50 head.

Derek Trucks, Mick Taylor, Dickey Betts, Robbie Krieger, Townsend (though he broke more of them than he played) + all the others mentioned.

Another lefty SG owner here. I bought mine used in 1980 at "Don Wehr's Music City" in SF for $345.00 and it was my first "real" guitar. It's a '76. I've been seduced by a vintage Telecaster, so that's mostly what I play now. Here's a very young "me" back in '82 with my SG...

Well for the git fiddle fans I likely committed a sin yesterday by selling off my 1966 Hagstrom bass and the Vox amp I bought new while in high skool. Bu it was not being used and taking up some space I wanted in the shop. Valuations were crazy high for the pair but the shop that bought them didn't think they could sell for NY prices. Smiles, MH

I never feel too bad about selling stuff off I'm not using. This way, somebody that really wants to, will get a chance to use it. I've got a 60's Hagstrom Viking which is one cool guitar!

FF,
Yeah, I have been carting it around for years and not using it. Good on ya for a nice Swedish guitar that will likely hold it's value for some time to come. I was surprised at the prices being asked for the one I had, but it was not on my radar before going to the shop. Smiles, MH

This belongs to my brother. He spotted it at a yard sale for….I shouldn’t say , cause he wants to sell it. He and his sons are musicians. Me? Just bikes , but thought I would add to the thread.

You both misspelled Duane Allman (although I think he used an SG only for slide in open E).

I learned the phrase "storing it on Craigslist" a while back and it helps me to keep that perspective. I can sell it now and if I want one again later, I'll probably find someone selling it (whatever it may be).
