Damn, one day one of you guys are going to make me snap and build up a Centurion frame. Nice build! Wheels are definitely the odd man out, but screw it, if they ride well, they ride well.

One heck of a build. The wheels make it look "ready to rumble." I'd keep 'em, if they ride right.
If I saw that on a group ride (and if I could catch up), I'd be looking to pace off of that thing.

Formerly Jan's bike, which was heroically rescued by Bill in NC back in '09. Haven't had a chance to weigh it, but I'm guessing right around 20.0 lbs. I really love this bike. <3
...and my Speedy-Sweety too, who is also an '86 model.

Question for the thread. How does 8speed tricolor (STI not downtube) compare to 8speed mirage with first generation ergo shifters?
A local shop owner has agreed to a straight swap for the tricolor that came on my Merckx for the campy that is on his 1996 diamondback podium 2.0 (link to bike). This would include a trade of my shimano hubbed wheels for the campy zonda wheels on the Diamondback.
Would you do it?

I would not trade my STI
I would not make the wheels go 'bye.
Mirage, Veloce, in my eye
Do not exceed my STI
Zonda hoops, my oh my
I would not trade my STI
(now, when we get to Chorus, that's a different rhyme)

Thanks. The photo doesn't show it well, but pretty much all of the transfers, pantographs, and lug lining are bright yellow and I think the bar tape complements all the dark grey and black.

Light as a fart, slicker than owl poo, and even though they feel nice & cushy, they're solid. I knew something was up, when all of the hardcore, high-miles guys I ride with had them.
My weight's been hovering between 185-190 and I've ridden them on rough roads occasionally for the last 2.5 years and have had to true them only once after bombing down a nasty Foxel Canyon Road at the end of the Solvang Century. I also replaced the bearings on the rear wheel when it seemed slightly gritty compared to my new 7900-C24's. It was a snap and the cups & races looked good even under the magnifier.
Only 16 spokes on the front, and I can feel it flexing slightly when braking hard and cornering on bombing runs down sillystring roads like Palomar's South Grade, compared to 32, 2-spoke, but that's half as any spokes. I checked it on the truing stand afterward, but zero-point-zero wiggle. And they're a pound and a half lighter than the aforementioned 32, 2-cross wheels I built for my Peloton.
I've heard the 7800-C24-CL's hub is not as robust as the 7850's or 7900's, so beware of that one.

Thanks gomango. I have already christened it with a wire hooked bungie. Of course it has to hit dead center on the downtube

You have proof the bike actually gets off a wall.
So many folks I know have picked up Cinellis the last six months.
Might have to find one this winter and give her a try.
