Brompton cables

IIRC, the shift cables are Sturmey Archer with the 3mm ends. Do both shifters use the same cable? Anyone know a source for the cables only in the US?

Alternatively, has anyone modified the shifter to accept more common cables?

Hmm... I'll be interested to see responses. I don't have a Brompton, nor a Sturmey Archer anywhere around, so I'm curious about the cable sheath/housing diameter, and cable type. For modern derailleur systems, shifters should use cable housing with longitudinal steel wire under the plastic (this was pioneered with the rise of Index Shifting, as previous helical core housing had sufficient stretch/compression in bends to affect shifting). Helical coil housing is now relegated to brake cables. However, a S/A 3-speed IGH may not require as precision a cable, don't know. Pics from Sheldon Brown:

My Brompton's shift cable housing reads Jagwire LEX. Probably get this at most bike shops.
