Dura Ace 7600 cranks suck

So I used to race on Dura Ace 7600 cranks (the square tapered ones). I thought they were stiff as hell and that I'd never need anything else. Recently I switched them out with some Sugino 75 cranks and raced with them. HUGE difference. I immediately noticed the 75's were way stiffer before I even sprinted.

I have two track bikes, one with Sugino 75's and one with DA 7600's, and I have had each on both bikes at one time or another. Cannot tell the difference at all.

I dont think I have ever felt a difference in any crank ever. Me thinks you felt a ****ty BB or ring perhaps.

WhatsYoCadence, I don't doubt that you are feeling a difference. But I think it may be something else in the system.

Maybe the crank arms are stretched out where they mate with the bottom bracket or the bottom bracket was maladjusted. It could be a number of things. But, the crank arms not being stiff is not what you are experiencing.

I should have mentioned- everything was the same. Same BB, same ring, same chain. The only difference was that the DA cranks were 167.5 and the suginos are 165, but that should make the DA feel stiffer if anything, no?

Carleton, you could be right. Maybe my DA cranks are a little messed up. I bought them used forever ago. Maybe at some point they were installed on the wrong BB.

Maybe psychological? Sugino's are noticeably heavier with a thicker spider, so look like they should be stiffer.

Yeah, I've seen people wrench down on them with gorilla strength. That stretches the spindle hole (or whatever the proper term is).
