Garmin bought metrigear

I'm hoping this means the power meters might actually exist sooner rather than later.

I can't read the article now, but sounds interesting...
Will be fun to watch them up against the Polar/look power pedals, if either actually brings a product to market.

That would explain Metrigear going dark over the last few weeks. Maybe some day. Until then I'm getting a Cinqo.

Sorry Hammond, I did check but obviously not well enough.
I am pretty confident that Garmin will deliver a product, with Metrigear alone ... not so much. Of course the $64,000 question is When!

I would think Garmin will really not want to lose too much time on Look/Polar. Hopefully a similar launch date.

metrigear will probably be $1500, compatible with anything ANT+. Furthermore, Garmin could probably make quite a bit by just break even on the acquisition of Metrigear (say $1200/unit) as they'll probably see an increase in the sales of their headunits. I'd wait a few months for prices like that.

It is encouraging for 2 reasons:
1/ Garmin probably is quite keen on getting a power unit, given how popular the Edge 500 and others are as head units, so they have the incentive and resources to drive this
2/ If they have purchased Metrigear, then due diligence has obviously revealed a product with potential

Hope springs eternal.
In terms of manufacturing, there is nothing radical about this product, especially if they have a working prototype ready. I can understand why a small, underfunded company would have issues putting everything together, but for a company like Garmin, it should be quite easy to get this out of the door. And they certainly have incentive enough.
I have a PT already, so it isnt as if I am holding my breath waiting for the product. But if it comes out at the $1k mark, I may get me one.

IMO, the acquisition by Garmin indicates that there is some credibility to what Metrigear was doing. A company like Garmin would not waste its money on a company that does not have a legitimate product in the pipeline.

Vaporware nonetheless. But much more promising.
