2001 Giant Lafree twist battery problem

Hi I bought a Giant lafree a while back and just got this battery that is 24v 10ah lithium ion battery brand new.
The bike turns on and the red light on the light blinks low power and keeps blinking. I figured out if the light keeps blinking it means electrical problems. What could be the problem I am stumped and new to building e bikes.

If you don't already have it, here's a pointer to the manual for the Giant Lafree that might be of some help.
LAFREE TWISTModel Year 2002

The manual indicates that the original battery was NiMh. Not sure if that should matter although the charger for the original battery would be different and may not work with a Lithium pack. You have a new charger that came with the lithium pack?

Yup, a Lithium system is a different animal. The battery requires a BMS, and mapped charger. NiMh chargers can do harm to a Lithium battery. I suspect the bike's controller might be incompatible, too.

I can see where the charger would be incompatible but not sure why the controller would care where he gets his 24V (or thereabouts) from? Although I confess I have no (and don't want any) experience with NiMh.

Is it a charger that came with the new lithium battery? or the "old" charger that was for the original NiMH battery that was on the bike?
