First internet service was a dial up called Delphi. All text based, no WWW. This was about '93 or '94. It asked for a screen name. "What the heck is that??" As I considered it, our rescue dog, Nestle, wandered over and voila! nesdog.

Mine is the real christian name. I was a journalist for a longish time, so my name appears in various publications going back 20 to 40 years.
Been a cyclist for over 20 years, including a period as head of a cycling organisation which was part of the city's councils, and a randonneur for quite a long time, too; that included a time as state president of Audax and member of Audax's national committee.
Fairly early member of BFs, so was lucky enough to enrol here with the real name. Also was a member of another forum that had a long-distance content, but it went to crap, and I eventually stopped posting there and forgot the password anyway. I think that forum eventually went down in a technical way and everyone's posts were eliminated... and I think my enrolment name was stolen when the forum came back to life.

On most of the boards I'm on, I'm Rivrrat, due to the inordinate amount of time I used to spend fishing in Washington.
Now that I live in Arizona, I figured I needed a new name. One day I was watching a Roadrunner cartoon, and well...........

I'm part Serbian and I really like cats so I looked up the Serbo-Croatian word for "cat": mačka
That was perfect! And it uses parts of my real name.
The č is pronounced ch like church, so it became Machka pronounced much like Match-ka.
I've been Machka for 17 years now.

This my 11 year old Winkin. Sleeping on my lap I am fixing to hit the hay and go for another bike ride tomorrow. I have a zoo on my small ranch here in Texas.

Got back into cycling by commuting to work, got rear ended and was pretty sore after a flip and landing on the curb on my back, or, 35 years of work as a garbageman...take your pick.

Very, I live in Essex about 10 miles north of Westport and you'll likely ride past my home. Didn't realize the FANY ride was coming through eastern NY. Fair Haven is in Vermont, how does that fit into FANY?

It's evolved through the years. I used to be more Retro. Now I'm more Grouchy.

Heart attacks in 2005 and 2010 resulted in a slew of cardiac stents that I believe are some type of titanium alloy. Searching for a screen name I decided on metal heart, but that was taken here so I added 44, my birth year, and now I am Metalheart44. Since then I have acquired some cobalt chromium hardware for both knees and I am trying to avoid any more metal in my body.

Back in the infancy of the internet, before social media, I was a member of many forums, and my friend and I were challenging each other to find the most despicable name we could thing of without getting rejected. I think his was frothyoozinglungcookie and mine was flyingbloodyfrogbiscuit, which has evolved over time to frogbiscuit.

Captain Insano
Captain Insano is Bobby Boucher’s pro wrestling hero in “The Waterboy”. I love that movie - it’s so endearingly stupid. The name has no connection to cycling whatsoever.

I was riding an Independent Fabrication, which some people call an "Indy Fab," when I joined BF. Z is first letter of my last name. Some people have assumed my name means I live in Indianapolis and love it.

A variation on "retro-grouch", Duragrouch means I favor parts and designs that are... wait for it... DURABLE. Wheels with lots of spokes, 3X or more lacing, NOT radial, double wall and double-socketed rims, standard (non-proprietary) designs with good interchangeability like square-taper bottom brackets (i.e., TIME-durable, you can easily find replacement parts decades after production), serviceability (replaceable bushings/bearings/races), well designed racks, seats that are comfortable and last decades with proper care, durable frames with lifetime warranties.
I'm not against innovation; The new splined bottom brackets are an improvement in design and allow a lighter (hollow) spindle, I just wish the manufacturers had agreed upon a standard so the crank from one will fit the BB spindle on another.
Disc brakes are nice, but I don't want to spend 5X the cost for replacement pads as rim pads, unless they last at least 2-3X as long.
Lights are currently a win/win; Vast improvement in performance and prices continue to drop. You can now get a pretty bright light, over 500 lumens, for $30 for known USA brand and locally bought, to $17 online for near 1000 lumens, big battery, made in China. And LEDs are vastly more durable than old filament bulbs, and brighter, and 1/10 the power consumption.

My mom had titanium joints, staples and other stuff holding her bits and pieces together. She used to semi-joke that she could feel lightning strikes in her joints during regional t-storms.
