Made a huge beginners mistake today.

Was riding in my community today where the speed limit is 25 mph. I ride here all the time and have established a real false sense of security as the traffic is light during the day and usually slow. Rode up on an intersection with a side street on my right and a car closing on my rear. I swerved into the side street, for no good reason, just as the car got to my back wheel and without thinking I swerved back to my left as I approached the oncoming curb. At the posted twenty five mph speed limit the car was still on my left but because I had not maintained my line it was close to the curb. Thankfully I was on the brakes soon enough to miss the car but my heart did reach it maximum beats per minute instantly. Old man having to get his head out of his butt. Be safe all.
Frank.

I’m glad I only have to look out for deer and rattlesnakes. And a drunk hillbilly that yells at me sometimes from his barn making no sense.

Swerving “for no good reason” or “without thinking” could drastically shorten your life span. I strongly recommend you don’t ride like that. The driver doesn’t want you to ride like that either. Be safe, and as Shelby said, hold your line.

It's nice to know that Texas is no different than up-state NY I spend more time trying to figure out why they felt they had to yell, a thumbs up or the middle finger still says much.

Nothing to worry about, unless you hear a banjo...

I nearly hit a mobility scooter rider on a local cyclepath, blind bend. He never saw me; he had two little 'uns in front on each knee, obscuring his view. I got called a dikkhead. A few yards behind me was another cyclist I'd just overtaken. I dunno what happened next . . .

Was this a multi-use path?

A skill or habit I work on is maintaining complete focus on the road surface and traffic around me. Occasionally my attention strays because people here are considerate of cyclists.

Ever ride a tandem? We hear the same things yelled at us all the darn time. Usually "She's not pedaling."
