Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

My Latest Trek Build UPDATED :)

So by popular demand haha i updated some pics without the TT. and i agree it gives it more a true vintage look. just took it for a few mile ride with the new chain on there.. feels great.. most components are shimano 600 with the exception of the headset and cranks.. (shimano 600 cranks had a hairline crack that the shop discovered) so 105 they are. this is what she looks like..

Looks good but it needs more Sram pc-870 and less top tube padding

Looks good, but what's with the ugly top tube pad?

I use to have a 1988 Trek 1200. The frame was aluminum. The welds were very nicely done and sanded (like on CAAD9s). The frame itself was really stiff, and the ride fast. I ended up selling it because it was a 56cm and I rode more of a 52-54cm.

ya the shop mentioned a new chain, which im about to do.. for the top tube pad there is two reasons i have it. first i like to preserve the condition of the bike so it doesnt get chipped and dinged on the top tube.. and second because the top tube is much thinner compared the aluminum trek frames. so cosmetically i prefer the look

Love the bike, YOU'LL love those components, especially if they're in the type of condition that they appear to be in.... But I too feel like a trek 560 is no place for a TT protector. So asthetically you don't like the look of classic steel frames, because they ALL look like that. =)

i don't want to make it look that way, i was just replying to the the aluminum frame comment.. as for steel frames, i love them and thats exactly why i bought this to build up

as for the shimano 600 stuff.. i also love it.. i have had this group set on many different bikes and always stick with it when possible.. i slowly bought all the parts of craigslist to put this one together.

i just put the new chain on.. sram pc850 and man does it make a difference.. the drivetrain feels so smooth and the shifting is perfect

Nice bike. Regal saddle, nice choice.

But that TT pad has to go!

You upgraded to Shimano 600 circa 1996 without the STI bifters. I rode that stuff on my Aegis CF for 10 years. Finally the STI shifter broke. I skipped 9 speed and went to 10 speed 6600 because of those damn near unbreakable shifters lasted so long.

Umm...yeah...the tires still have the mold marks. You haven't ridden the bike enough. Go ride and take proper pics

I think the TT protector is a good idea. Especially if you don't care about aesthetics and if you want to prevent damage to your frame. Makes your bike look like a bmx toy, but who cares?

Have you ever chipped your paint by leaning your bike against a pole? That's how.

just sold a set of 600 tri color brifters that would have gone nicely with that build.
