The bicycles were first marketed under the American Eagle brand beginning in 1965 and later under the Nishiki brand until 2001.

Check the serial number and the Nishiki serial number database on this forum here https://www.bikeforums.net/showthread...+serial+number
I would guess it is an eighties bike.

I was just looking at that bike on Vancouver Craigslist, or was it Toronto. Anyway, nice bike. Probably based on the Nishiki Landeau model but that would be just a guess. I had to laugh at the Craigslist listing when the seller indicated that the bicycle was from the sixties. Hardly. As mentioned - early to mid eighties.

Read again Randy..... 80's on Craigslist. Get some sleep!
OK, this started bugging me, so I retraced my steps and found the following, on Craigslist, Toronto...
What a beautifull bike....My nearly original 1960's cavnnondale mountain bike.....it;s beautifull and big....24inch frame....all aluminum except the forks...which are original...it has xt shifters....xt rear derailor...lx front derailor...specialized crank...36 and 48 teeth....no small ring....diacompe brakes.....new black vee rubber tires...26inch.........the style of this frame is one of a kind....extends at the rear wheel....needs nothing.....maybe the gooseneck painted....Hate to sell it....
Upon revisiting, I did notice the title indicated the 1980s. None the less, that clears up the mystery, for me, and now you have all had a bit of a chuckle, inlcuding me - oops, #4

Bicycle Repair Man !!!
If you look on the Cyclone rear D you will find a date code and the Cyclone Mk1 was produced until 1980 is several versions and believe that this bike is a 1979 -1980 model.
In 1981 Nishiki bicycles were fitted with Cyclone Mk 2 derailleurs although they may have used the older Cyclone for the special plating as it is a far more attractive derailleur.
Nishiki is simply a marketing name given to Kawamura bicycles that were imported and sold in North America under "American Eagle" and then "Nishiki" and think the 50th anniversary refers to Kawamura as later Nishiki's were built by Giant in Taiwan while this is a Japanese made bicycle.
Worked on one of these some years ago and the pictures here do not do the bike justice... they are a very beautiful machine.
