Just Back From The Paint Shop
Got it back yesterday. My '88 Schwinn Traveler with new cherry-red powder coat. Shout out to K & G Bicycles of Kettering, OH for offering this service. I will be building it up as a 650B conversion since I already have all the parts for it (well, at least I hope I do and nothing got lost in the move to a new town). I will post photos of the finished product for those who are interested. This will likely be my last bike build since my arthritis is getting worse so I hope to have it completed for the Spring riding season. Last year was pretty much a bust since I had two major surgeries but I did manage to get a couple hundred miles in.

Wow that looks great!
Whats the story on the head badge, it looks so mint. Is it all original, or did you somehow repaint the red center area and black Schwinn outline? Mine has quite the “patina” in comparison.

I'm still torn on paint vs powercoat on my Schwinn project. I have a set of NOS waterslide decals so if I want to use them I have to go with paint.
How much did you pay for the powdercoat job, if you don't mind my asking?

It looks very nice . I had one bike powder painted and it is holding up well. I hope you get many miles on it. I look forward to seeing it built up .

That looks great @smurfy . I have an 88 Traveler as well. I am not enamored with the paint job. It might have been great in '88. But now, to my eyes....? Anyway, when I ride it I don't see the paint job and it rides pretty darned good. With True Temper double-butted tubing and Schwinn getting serious about building good bikes, this bike rides like my old Serotta Club Special. It's not a Serotta, but it does feel like it sometimes.
Someday, I wouldn't mind painting it like yours.

it does look presentable. I am skeptical of powder coat by experience. It is true that the long term durability is very prep and procedure dependent.
I did smile as the thread title stated it came back from the paint shop. No paint here.

Well, it's normally $200 but I worked out a trade with my lugged-steel Colnago Sprint I wasn't riding anymore due to the riding position (I am getting too old and stiff to ride it so I was hoping somebody else can enjoy it). I think the shop owner is going to add it to his personal collection.
