Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Is BF dying?

Traffic is down. Explanations?

-Seasonal variation/off-season?

-Did the newbies get tired of the snide remarks?

- Did the hard core guys get tired of dumb questions (over and over)?

-Did the volume of BS finally bury the pearls?

Around June were the extremely hot months (here it was easily 110 for days in a row). Right now is perfect riding time. Check it out again once winter kicks in.

It would be interesting to see that graph over several years, to see how it fluctuates seasonally.

Oh, so you're saying in June, nobody was out riding, everybody was cabin-feverishly posting on BF. That makes sense.

During the summer newbs come on here seeking advice. In the winter, and as it gets colder most of those newbs disappear and you're left with us losers.

Sorry.

Wait until Janruary....

"reach" is not the same as traffic. You probably want to click the "page views" button before claiming traffic is down.

With half a month of "down" traffic which is still higher than the traffic was in April (or a similar period from last year), I wouldn't really consider the traffic down. What's more interesting is the traffic spike at the end of September. Where'd that come from? pcad vanity threads?

The decline of BF does seem to coincide with the rise in Pcad's posting rate.

of all the newbs from summer, maybe 1% of them actually check out the winter forum.

Snide remarks? BF is very tame actually... I looked at the Alexa plot for 3 months and it looks very odd. Huge spikes followed by massive troughs. Kind of like the stock market.

Perhaps people only post or not post when they are happy or anxious.

We observe the same effect in our shop. When the financial news are relatively positive, people buy. When the news are worrying, lots of people browse, but nobody buys anything

Google searches (for components’ reviews, for instance) keep directing me here. And some BFers really know the stuff (I learned a lot so far, but you have to be selective). BF can be also be quite entertaining. It would be a shame if it fizzles.

Well for every post of yours, there's about four posts by botto consisting of one word. Then there's the two or three people attempting to emulate botto with the same terse language, but lacking in both accuracy and style. Then MrCrassic or someone else jumps in and says that those poseurs are no good at emulating botto's style. There's approximately one full page of posts summarized right there. Continue for 4-15 pages, and we have BF in a nutshell. What I'm saying is not that you solely increase traffic, but you are the catalyst for it.

Lots of "fair weather" riders here ... it gets a bit chilly, and people put their bicycles away.
