Road Morph pump broblem
Road morph bike pump.
I have this pump and yesterday when attempting to pump up a tube to find the puncture it didn’t work!
it had no pressure at all. I walked a mile and half to my car.
it appears the O ring won’t create any pressure. I went to local hardware store for new O ring.
the one like the original didn’t creat any pressure and the next larger wouldn’t go into the pump.
Does this pump require a special O ring and if so where do I get it?

it's a topeak pump. I am not sure if parts are available but the O ring is certainly a failure point.
on ebay I see a "road morph repair kit" which has the replacement part but its $6.00 and "you don't want to pay that much"
personally I would buy a new pump. That one probably is not worth fixing
but what do I know ?

The Topeak Road Morph is a rebuildable pump generally they have rebuild kits for it and your local Topeak dealer may have the kit and can get you the part you need. I wouldn't ditch the pump and if you are doing that send it to me and I will take care of it.

I like the pump, when it works. I put some oil on the O ring end, worked for a few minutes.
I’ll check with a bike shop next time I’m near one, see if they have parts.
I’m 180 miles from nearest good bike shop!

Unfortunately, you might have a tough time finding the o-ring, most shops will sell you a new pump but don't stock the o-ring. You can buy one on-line but between the price and the shipping you'll probably just opt for a new pump. I have two of those pumps sitting in my garage with worn out o-rings.

Contact Topeak's customer service. They are very likely to send you a replacement o-ring (or perhaps a brand new pump) at no cost.

Thanks for the reminder to oil the o-ring in my pumps. It’s been a while since I had a flat on the road and I know I’m tempting the Flat Gods by saying so.

Phil's Tenacious is my favorite because it's sitting at the front of my bench.
If you run into this problem again, you might be able to get home by trickling some water from your bottle into the pump. It probably won't get you up to full pressure, but it may seal the O-ring enough to get enough pressure a couple miles' ride home. But when that happened to me, I replaced the pump. It was 10-12 years old, so I got my money's worth out of it.

Had the same problem when we were touring on our tandem in Denmark. I took the pump apart and spit on the "o" ring! Worked until we got to a home center.
Now I do abit of maintenance on the pump before every tour.

I neglected mine once for a couple of years. (After I started using Gatorskin tires, flat frequency went way down.) So it didn't work when needed. It was full of grit from riding in rain, etc. I happened to be at the end of a desert ride and was out of water, didn't even have enough spit to clean it and make it work. I had to walk a couple of miles into Albuquerque. Now I clean it and check it after every ride in the rain, and do a complete tear-down service on it yearly. And I keep it inverted on the frame. (Someone on this forum puts some kind of condom over the handle.) It's a great pump, worth the extra attention.

I've had good results with using silicone grease on rubber seals.
I'm silly enough to disassemble a brand new pump and apply some right from the start.

Use something other than oil. You want something semi-solid that stays in place. Silicone grease, bearing grease, Vaseline, etc. would work better. As to the o-ring, you need to make sure you match the cross-section of the o-ring as well as the proper diameter.

What's everyones favorite version of the morph pump? I'm liking the Road Morph G more than the Turbo Morph G even on high volume tires due to the extendable hose on the Road Morph G.

The Road Morph G and the Turbo Morph Digital have nearly the same hose length (minus a mm or two). The difference is the Gauge is part of the pump head which does change the overall length but the hose is nearly the same.
For me I like the Road Morph for high pressure stuff and my Turbo Morph actually lives in my travel tool case but have brought it out mountain biking and used it on rare occasion for other high volume stuff. I do like the Turbo Morph for it's easier to read gauge but that is not super important either way for a portable pump.

I also like the Road Morph... mine is so old I can't tell if it's a "G". IIRC, when I bought these (I have 2) the choice was between a "Road Morph" and "Mountain Morph", and I went with the former. It's almost like having a floor pump on the bike.
The Road Morph is attached to the seat tube.

Hahaha... that makes sense! They're *both* "G". The gauge is what makes it such a good product; you can watch it while operating the pump and not having to contort to see the pressure or maintain the seal on the valve stem.

selection of metric O rings, bought the one closest to what I have.
It didn’t work, even with 30 weight oil applied to it. I have two other working pumps so it’s not that I have to use
this one.
