Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Is a century considered 100 miles or 100KM?

guess it depends on what country you're in, but in the US its 100 miles unless otherwise stated. There are rides that are described as metric centuries which are 100KM.

The convention I've learned is: century = 100 miles, metric century = 100 km..but there's often some ambiguity outside of the U.S.

I think we had a thread on this once.....or twice, but in the US a century is 100 miles.

For clarification one could easily say "Imperial Century" or "Metric Century"

I commonly say "Century" for 100 miles and "Metric" for 100k.

The rest of you....take your "system of units" arguements over there:
