A nice looking 1989 Cinelli Supercorsa frame popped up in my local market. It's my size (55 cm) and includes Campagnolo C-Record headset and Campagnolo bottom bracket. The seller is asking $600. Is that a fair price for this frame? I've seen appraisals a lot higher than that for a fully built Supercorsa, but I'm not sure how much of that value is tied to having the rest of the original components.

Hard for me to place a value , as I'm usually looking for bikes that are already built and original with original group set. It's an SLX , my buddy has a Scapin SLX, and he loves it the most out of all his rides. If it's the bike and frame size you want it seems reasonable. Keep in mind getting period correct group sets , wheels , etc, gets pricey and finding low mile parts .
PS, I'm sure someone will chime in that kniws these frames.

Would be a great bike to restore then outfit with modern components. Price would work out equivalent to a modern steel frame but with a greater mystique.

That's market price for a frame in OK cosmetic condition. I'd be looking to pay 20% less.

If you are looking for a Cinelli of this vintage, the price is OK but not a screaming bargain.

Unless you already have the parts on hand, and if Cinelli is not your "grail bike"

you would do better to wait for something nice at a more favorable price.

I'm with Doc ^. If you do get it, find some extra seat post binder bolts.

The fact it comes with the headset and BB is a plus, assuming they are in good working order.

For that money I'd be wanting the paint to be in better condition, but I'll admit to being picky. I don't think the price is unrealistic though. If you are really wanting one and this size fits, when are you going to find another? Most that I've seen are completes. So take that into consideration too.

By the way, FWIW, I visited "the bay" to look at current asking prices and found some person in Romania selling head badges for $480.00 and $380.00 respectively. So hey, $600.00 for the whole smear is a good deal! But seriously, based on what I saw, and I know they are only asking prices, the $600.00 doesn't look out of line to me. Still, that paint! But the chrome lugs are killer. Actually I've seen much worse.

...I think most of these in this era came with early Super Record stuff on them. If you can find one of those early Super Record derailleurs for sale, it will cost a lot of money.
I think, but am not absolutely certain, that the complete bikes you sometimes see for sale are a better deal, when you consider what it costs to build it back up...if you are trying to go original.

OTOH, New Record stuff is all over the place, at pretty reasonable prices. So if you're good with that, it might be a good frame for you.




Edit: I just looked on ebay, and there are a number of this 2nd gen model available in the $100-150 range, so forget I said anything.

I find the late 1960s to mid-1970s Cinelli frames more aesthetically pleasing, with their classic sloping fork crowns.

If the late 1980s Cinelli is your ne plus ultra, this seems a nice example.

Some C&V collectors would pay more for a paint job than the asking price on your frame.

The half chromed seat lug always bothered me on these frames. I'd just take off the rest of it (Which is already chipping off at the edges on this frame.) from that seat lug and come up with something that looks much hetter.

It would sell for twice that much here in Japan, where the Super Corsa is one of the holy grail bikes. I'd give $600 for it in a heartbeat, hell, I'd happily pay $1000.

I would say the price is a bit high considering the just OK boring paint, I would say see if you can get it for $400 so if you like it and it's the right size.

...the white paint on these has a pearlescent overlay. It doesn't always show up in photos. I never heard anyone describe Cinelli paint as "boring" before. To my eye, the paint on that frame looks pretty good. But my vision is getting worse with age.
