The $64 Question: How bad is this eBay minivelo?

Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

The $64 Question: How bad is this eBay minivelo?

I'm looking for a cheap bike I can take on camping trips - one small enough to fit in our camper or SUV, and cheap enough that I can leave it locked up at our campsite all day without worrying about losing it. I'm considering folding bikes, but I love the idea of a minivelo.

I know there aren't many of them around anymore, but I've seen this one quite often on eBay:

Cocoa Pigeon 20" wheels

It's listed variously as a "Coco Pigeon" or a "Flying Pigeon." Is anyone familiar with this bike? Can it be assembled / made rideable? Not for serious use, just tooling around a campground and such.

Ok, so you have:
  • 20" wheels, non-folding
  • Steel Frame
  • Steel seatpost (with those vintage pivot type clamps).
  • Steel rims
  • Pressed steel hubs
  • Bolt on hubs.
  • Single Speed.
  • ? rear dropouts.
It wouldn't be my choice of bike, but perhaps your needs are different.

Looks like a piece of junk. And it's marketed on Ali Baba as a girl's bike, if that makes a difference to you.

Those detail photos help.

So, marketed for someone about 150 to 175cm, or about 5' to 5'8". But, the bike design almost looks like it would work well for even a large kid's bike.

The "Mocha" version comes with a derailleur, but doesn't seem to be available in the USA.

For just the occasional ride around a lake, it may well do just fine.

But, for compact packing it around, I'd go for a full folder instead.

That's about what I expected. Thanks to both of you.
