Rode roughly one hour this afternoon. Outbound leg had 12-16 mph headwinds, yielding an average speed of 11.2 mph with HR in Zone 3. Return leg (tailwind) average speed was 16.3 mph with HR in Zone 2. No power meter for today's ride. The Garmin 520 suggested 31 hours for recovery at ride's end!

Nice 63 miles with 2900’ of hills up to my in laws house. Pretty breezy but sunny skies and 50 degrees. Mostly headwinds and crosswinds the first 45 miles. Rode a new road to me which is always fun.

The third ride on my recently rebuilt Lemond Tourmalet. Started out with sun, mid 40's and NW wind 8 to 10 mph. This morning I put a on set of almost new Campy Zonda and brand new Panaracer Gravel Kings, 25mm, on the bike. My first time with GKs. With the Zondas and GKs the bike rides exceptionally well. I made a few stops for pics and visits. Heading home into the wind, it had picked up to 18 to 20 mph with strong gusts. My legs were feeling it, and glad I had my Giro windbreaker jacket on. Temp was about the same, but sure felt like it was 10 deg. cooler. 25 miles gives me an even 200 this month.

I did the 21 mile loop north of town this morning. It was 46 degrees when I went out so I wore shorts. I've had a number of days like this where long pants are not needed. I’m working my way down to a ride in shorts at 39 degrees. 😊 I also wore my heavy mittens but threw the riding gloves in the saddlebag.Last time the mittens made my hands sweat after a half hour and I had left the riding gloves home..I stoped at about 10.5 miles where I can sit and have a snack.I decide to switch into my riding gloves.20 minutes later my hands are COLD.Back to the mittens. The legs are fine.I see only two bikers together coming the other way ono the trip.Younger, serious bikers who barely acknowledge my “Good Morning” as we pass.

34 mile ride this morning as part of ramping up for a March 50 miler. Pleasant, mid-70's, with a slight breeze. Highlight of the ride was a brief stop to watch the SpaceX launch. My ride route is on the west side of the Indian River, and Kennedy Space Center is on the east side. I was not quite close enough to see the rocket itself, just the flames from it. Happy to report the launch was a success, unlike my attempt to capture good pictures on my iPhone.

50 miles on Thursday. Best day of the week - warm, sunny, clear, and calm. Terrific ride. Friday was high winds and dropping temps. Saturday was snow, ice and sleet. Sunday was windy with temps dropping further below freezing. Bike is staying in the garage for now.

Sixteen sunny but chilly miles, mid 30's with 10 to 12 mph N to NE wind coming off the water. Nice ride.

Too much frost for golf so rode the gravel bike for a few hours. REALLY great route for dirt roads. It might become my go to route for gravel riding. Just enough length and climbing and the gravel roads are super smooth. Probably more gravel roads than paved which is surprising. The paved roads are nice and very low traffic. Lots rolling hills with 3200’ of climbing over 42 miles. But the hills were pretty evenly spread out over the route.
It was my first ride after replacing the 46/34 with the GRX 46/30. It shifted great but I need to tweak the FD to minimize the chain rub on the 46 and larger cogs.
It’s the kind of route I’d post pictures on Facebook and my riding buddy Earl Gillon would respond with “I know right where that is “ or “Next time try this road.” Ride In Peace Earl!
Lots of loose dogs on the route, mostly barkers and only a few chasers. No teeth marks though!
Probably the craziest thing was I rode by a church cemetery in a very rural area. I spotted the last name of Rash on a tombstone. I worked with Brenda Rash in Elkin and Bradley Rash in Charlotte. They are siblings and grew up in the area I was riding through. Unbelievably I found their parents future grave site. Just crazy I’d pass it and even notice??? Things you find out riding.....
Mountains in the background
Lot of smooth dirt roads today
My former coworkers names!!! They’re both still very much alive!!!
The church goes back a long way
An Amish store and a must stop....but closed today for winter hours???
A good sign for a gravel day!
Brushy Mountains
My Lynskey GR260.
More gravel!

First actual bike ride today in 8 days due to weather. Ten miles in mid-30's temps and dry. Still very small bits of ice/snow residue here and there - easily avoided. Have used the recumbent machines at our YMCA in the meantime which is better than nothing - along with a variety of core/upper body equipment. But, nothing beats a bike ride.

Rain stopped around 3pm ? Sun came out but the roads were still wet , so I carefully rode 5.5 miles around the neighborhood. Mid 50’s .

Only a short 2.7 mile neighborhood ride to have some activity besides walking around the grocery store . Too cold , cloudy , and windy to ride any longer .

Did a birthday ride today but, since January often does not lend itself to such rides, am not used to doing them. Did a Token Birthday Ride instead = ten miles equals 1/7 of my age. Sunny and 40 degrees.
Stopped by back entrance to City property behind main water treatment plant. Have ridden by the facility hundreds (?) of times over the last couple of decades and only rarely have smelled anything slightly unpleasant. No aroma problem today.

Put in 17 miles today. Roads were still wet from the pounding rain the past week in the Tacoma. WA area. Used my Sirrus with the fenders to keep the gunk off me and the bike.

After dark this evening, 14.2 miles, 47F and still. A nice cruise.
I have new ear warmers that make it possible to hear the radio/podcast by holding the earbud (right ear only) in place and by cutting wind noise. They're too hot at 47F, but I still wear em.
