News flash: Geezer Bikers Don’t Get Old

Geezer “cyclists did not show their age. On almost all measures, their physical functioning remained fairly stable across the decades and was much closer to that of young adults than of people their age. As a group, even the oldest cyclists had younger people’s levels of balance, reflexes, metabolic health and memory ability.”

I don't have a link to it, but I believe it was the New England Journal of Medicine that a while back did a study and found that bicycling actually slowed the aging process. BTW-I'm 69 and most people who don't know me, think I'm in my 50's. And I like it!

Interesting I'm 69 and people who meet me think I'm almost 80. Today I feel closer to 80 than 70 and I can totally forget about 60.

I used to wonder why there weren't more geezers on the trail and on the bike. Watching folks I know leave those sports gave me the answer: People break. Stuff happens. People get sick. It's attrition over time. One can't always blame the failure of body parts on poor choices. Those of us geezers who are still at it are, above all, lucky. Of course we owe a lot to our good choices but there's more to it than that.

So train, eat well, sleep well, smile, look forward to continued success and good feelings, and hope you'll stay lucky.

I like to think so, but a snip of our own Pills and Ills thread would seem to indicate otherwise. Just sayin.

Heck, yeah! And that’s not even the half of it. At the end of the whole thing, you’re ******g dead!
