Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

There is a neighborhood behind us with million dollar 5000+ square feet McMansions. One of our neighbors told me how much she loves how we have fruit trees in our yard. I suggested she could plant a couple in her yard. She said no, the HOA won’t allow it.

That’s messed up IMO.

Speaking of fruit trees, our peaches should be ripe and ready in about 1 week. for sweet peaches!

I guess that I can cross the movie adaptation off of my list.

But, in fairness, it's been in queue for about 4 years and I haven't watched it yet.

I saved you several days of great sadness and never being able to think about a parts car in quite the same way again. Want to hear how Moby Dick ends?

Sincere apologies and if the movie is said to be half as hauntingly, tragically, beautiful, as the book, watch it anyway.

Ha. No worries. I was aware of a twist, but spilling the beans on that isn't going to move the needle too much either way - I think that, like most good sci-fi, the story isn't in the plot devices. The tone seems quite somber, which is something that I really need to be in mood for - prolly why it's still unwatched.

The sci-fi, dystopian future aspect is really just a device for Ishiguro's examination of the idea of growing up with a sure knowledge of coming death. However, I feel especially bad about the spoiler because the way he unfolds that knowledge, through a child's, then an adolescent's, and then a young woman's understanding is amazingly powerful.

Good peaches are the best. Bad peaches are the worst. In MN at least, there's no greater risk/reward in the produce section than buying a bunch of peaches.

In New Hampshire, the only way is to buy them fresh at the orchard.

Being in Philly, I can get them fresh from New Jersey. There is one orchard near where I like to start rides from. Just never liked them. My grandmother used to take us peach (and pear and apple) picking in PA when we were kids. She would can the peaches and pears and make her own applesauce, which I do like.
