There are a number of things that affect the ride and handling of a bike, and head tube angle is certainly one of them. Fork rake (or "offset"), with its resulting trail, play a big role. 56mm of trail (you'll have to look these terms up, or "bicycle geometry" up as it is a lot to explain) is what is considered 'neutral' handling--a nice blend of responsiveness and stability. Longer trail and the bike feels like it's on a rail. Shorter trail, and it's a quicker steer. Some classic touring bikes have almost no trail and handle very nicely.
You'd have to look up modern Colnago's today, though I would think they are well within the norm. 73-74° HT angle, 56mm or so of trail. ....looked up the new C64, which is mega hot, and a "65cm" equivalent is right inside those numbers. Now I want one. If only I could convince myself to spend that much on a frameset....eh, my Impulse is essentially perfect. Nevermind.

It traveled all over the world, of course it was built up but it may have only been ridden a dozen times. It shows the travel scars but this frame is straight, no dents just the normal wear from shipping bikes around the world. This was a spare frame for the 1996 Olympic in Atlanta but was not put into service until the following year. A definite piece of cycling history

Hang around and put in some scouting time, great bikes turn up regularly in the area, and you have some A+ spotters/posters up there. (Lucky you, they don't ride bikes that big.)
I use going home to the Cape as an excuse to go joyriding. (Obviously s/b past tense at this point.)
Got my Ghibli in Brookline last summer. That's on the way to the Cape, right?
I did get a Holdsworth in Wareham maybe 3 miles off Rte. 25.

Cannondale had a 66cm criterium frameset that had a 74.75° HT angle, 56mm of trail, and had a wheelbase just a tick under 1m. Pretty wild. Easy handler though, and with wider-than-normal bars (for me), it was very calm in demeanor. Generally I've found that the longer a stem/handlebar/brake hood position reach gets, the calmer or 'slower' any bike steers. Conversely, the shorter all those elements are, the quicker it steers. The more weight over the front (via the rider's position), the slower it gets. And likewise, the less weight over the front aids in steering speed/response.
I wonder--and this is derived from something I read/heard--if to maintain as tight a wheelbase as possible (for criteriums that need a small, responsive bike) while also providing necessary top tube length for taller riders, steep HT angles were arrived at as it created a much longer top tube without much penalty in wheelbase length increase. Add a longer stem and bars, and there you go: instantly much larger bike than normal.

Ahh. That makes sense. I have the chance to pick up an 88 SR500 but couldn't tell if it was any different from the other road/crit models offered that year (other than the 105 groupset). Looks like the answer is no except for the fork mangalloy fork. Thanks for calling my attention to that.

"This vintage Schwinn prelude road bike from 1987 is all original. The responsive and light frame is Columbus Tenax double butted chrome-moly tubing. Overall, it is in very good condition, but the handlebars need to be retaped and there are some scratches.

Must be Schwinn Saturday. I'll take two please. Nice bikes. The Prelude is vintage which I would prefer. Have owned a similar era Circuit and still own a similar Tempo. The late 80's Schwinn's are awesome.

Not sure what makes this one "Terry inspired", since it has 700 front wheel. Maybe just the size. Anyway, it's "only" an Expert, and no DS pics, but still a sweet enough price, if it hasn't been robbed of any components.
