Vintage Mondia!
The gf found this on CL in the San Francisco Bay Area last week so we brought it home. It came exactly as shown except we traded black bar tape for the red that was on it. Previous owner did a fine job of restoring this Swiss beauty.

Nice! It's about time someone posted a Mondia. Always thought they were cool. A lot of them got repainted BITD because the multicolor smoke/fade paint schemes were a bit too much for the conservative American tastes of the time period. I wonder if this bike had one?
Needs toe clips/straps, and IMO a new handlebar angle. Obviously the latter is personal.

Very nice looking restoration, Mondia's, in my opinion, are highly underrated (maybe because swiss or french threading) but the lug work on the early ones is great.
Reynolds tubing is why they say steel is real...nice grab!

That is really special, so to speak. Beautiful machine -- thanks for sharing. Looks like my kind of frame geometry: sport-touring Goldilocks sweet spot between too stiff and too whippy.

You could do an Abbôtt and Costello bit about the name.
"What's it called."
"It's the Special."
"Yes, it's very nice. What model Mondia is it."
"It's the Special model."
"I'm just askin'. If you don't know, just say so..."
I love Mondias. The Special is about as good as it gets.

Beat me to the comment...what about adding why they call Mondia's "Super".
Best, Ben

Ive had a Mondia Special since 1982 , first "real" bike I owned.
Yours is in fanastic condition and with a few tweeks it should be ready for any L'Eroica event . Whatever you paid for it, Its worth it.

brake setup exhibits a spot o' reworking
the MAFAC Racers are OEM but the Universal front hanger and Weinmann rear hanger are not
evidently someone was not satisfied with the MAFAC release on the caliper and wished to have one on the hangers as well
are you able to read the serial on the NDS seat stay cap?
---
the distinctive seat binder is one stocked by Kitching BITD
IIRC its brand name is something like NICHROM (NIKROM(?))...perhaps another reader shall recall it
the long nut is designed so that the bolt can be tightened/loosened without risk of nicking up the paintwork
unfortunately it means added weight and became obsolete once allen binders came in

Seeing your very nice Mondia makes me want to ride mine , it’s been a while. I have had a 1973 for a few years now and love it . It is such a comfy ride. I have done many miles on it.
