Which ones do you think have some good car-free or car-light options? Davis of course, is well known for that - any others?

Sure--e.g., Both north and south of Monterey (although a bridge is out in Big Sur) and Carpenteria north to Morro Bay (through either Lompoc or San Louis Obispo. All of the coast north of San Francisco. San Clemente through Camp Pendleton to Oceanside and along the North County Coastal through La Jolla to OB to the Point Loma Lighthouse.

Well, as you know I am not a fan of the rat race. So when you project high GDP growth will be maintained as LCF continues to grow, my fear is that the reduced need for pavement, cars, insurance, etc. that comes with LCF won't be translated into corresponding liberation from economic pressures.
You see, ultimately the economy is about occupying people's time in service of employers because if we don't submit to (sufficient) paid employment, we lose privileges of freedom. I am a believer in the prospect of gaining more time for unfunded projects by spending less time in paid employment, so part of the reason I LCF is to gain more freedom from the rat-race. What you're saying is that the rat-race will continue to grow and push people, only more of us will be biking and taking transit to arrive at our obliged destinations. Can you see how that would be less than ideal in my eyes?

Does living on a golf course and traveling mostly by electric cart or driving to the country club in a Tesla qualify as LCF?

Apparently for the purposes of the list's dreamers desire to exaggerate the extent of a "LCF Movement", everybody who sometimes uses a bicycle or public transport qualifies as being LCF, or "car light" which is used interchangeably with living car free, regardless of how many cars are owned or how many miles are driven by the so-called LCF people.

Racks that hold three bikes are becoming more common. It's still a gamble, but more capacity improves the odds a bit.

Great to hear a contrary opinion. Sounds like a bit of inter-city rivalry going on - don't worry - we all think Copenhagen is the best! Or wait - maybe it's Gronigen!
You can post forum links - or maybe not if you are a brand new member?

Yes, there are rules about posting links for new members. I actually had to delete your links in the quote to be able to reply.
Here is two more for you. The film is from the newspaper filming for 90 minutes. All the drivers they comment on is using the mobile phone, texting or talking holding the phone with one hand. Only handsfree phone use is allowed. It was mainly cars filmed here but go to where there are more bikes and take a look at them or read link number two.

There is a lot of anger in my opinion- and selfishness. You ar not punished for breaking the law so why bother? I am suprised that Norway was just (again) apointed the best (most developed) country to live in. Plse tell me what developed means. Spoilt children are rarely happy.

I'm quite disappointed that you came up with such a bad example of a possible LCF/LCL community in California, but not so much disappointed in you - it's more the rest of us at fault. Presumably you came to the forum seeking ideas on how to live car-free or light, (obviously, since that is what the forum is for), and the rest of us ought to have given you useful tips. However, despite all the time you spend here and the dozens of your posts we have responded to, it's clear that you have learned nothing.
Nostra culpa, I guess.

I'm sure they have a low crime rate in Cayucos as it is an affluent area and crime is linked in part to poverty. However it is also the case that it is hard to measure the crime rate per 100/k people in a town of 2500, as you have to multiple the actual occurrences by 40 to estimate the annual rate. A slight year-to-year variation eg. one extra violent crime, or one murder, would lead to huge fluctuations in the estimated annual rate.
For example the Cayucos murder rate was 40/100k in 2008: https://www.sanluisobispo.com/news/lo...e39123876.html
Anyway, you still have provided no insights about living car-free or car-light there, and it's pretty obvious you aren't going to.
