Went on a nice 32 mile ride this morning. I think this is only the 5th or 6th time I’ve been out on the Peugeot PFN10 I built up over the winter and I love it more and more each time I take it out. Getting very excited for warmer weather.

Yes, well, we had 55mph gusts yesterday so I did not ride. But I did get out today on a different French bike, the Motobecane, believed from lots of circumstantial evidence but no real proof, to be a Champion Team. Ah, it was getting windy today too but not like yesterday.

Ooh, another PF! Nice. Which Vitus tubing is that? Mine is labeled 181.

Today was the first day of the year with temperatures over 20 degrees Celsius, so taking the bikes out for a spin after a long day of WFH was a no-brainer. I took the Olympia Sport, because I wanted to test it with the Ostrich front bag loaded with a little more weight than I did previously. I was not disappointed.

Another couple of warm days and there will be an explosion of green here. And winter will be a distant memory:

That Méral has become a huge hit. I am really happy with that.

Since I keep going to the same ole places, maybe I should start a thread, "what did you ride today?" Today, it was the '72 Torpado.

Beautiful day yesterday to ride from the old Vienna train station down the W&OD/Custis Trail system to the Potomac. Long term parking lot at National Airport was closed and empty (which was a weird sight in itself) but all of the other tourist-y parking lots along the wester side of the Potomac were packed, from the airport all the way up to Roosevelt Island.

Watching the planes take off and land never gets old:

Cherry blossoms are in full bloom now, although traffic on the Tidal Basin across the river is restricted:

Johnson Memorial. I a week or so this will be flush with tulips blooming:

rccardr I love Gravelly Point. I used to take my kids there to watch planes land.

Pre kids, my wife and I lived next to Crystal City and we could walk to the airport. Where else can you do that?

Sneaking out at Lunch

WFH has its perks. Blessed to live 10-15 minutes ride from Chatfield State Park, a bike haven. Got fenders and a 46/30 on the Trek now - better fit for my riding.

The auto repair shop!

Catalytic converter got stolen on the car and it got towed to the far outskirts of Portland. I had to go in and sign paperwork, so I got to take the Springwater trail out there. Didn't get a picture of Mt. Hood on the way out, so I guess a parking lot photo of my Gugie Compétition will have to do:

Fenderlines are my own work; don't blame him!

As I struggle to regain some small level of fitness, I have to remind myself how fortunate I am to have scenery like this on a 25 mile loop from my front door.

Glad as always to post this thread

The warmest day of the year deserved a longer (for me) ride. Sunny, light to no wind. Took a sandwich and plenty to drink.

Google Maps put the distance at 49+ miles. And I messed around getting pics etc, so a little muscle soreness is understandable - given minimal annual miles. There is Hope for a decent cycling season.

oh. Batavus Competition, Ishi022, long stem for shortish TT, Ergo 9spd, triple, clinchers, G.Petersen SpeedBlend rear tire.

the pics

Riding past the landing zone was worthy of a pic. TOUCHDOWN! Or Tom Petty lyrics ... I won't Back Down .... coming down is the hardest thing!

^ ^ ^ ^ ^ ^ Marymoor Park Open Space Redmond, WA USA yard art.

Ride on!
Grant, did anything ever become of the SpeedBlend patent? (pending?) My 28 mm is the last of 3. Purchased at the Warehouse location, if memory serves, on my 2nd and last visit. Great riding all around that huge area branching out from all around the SFBay area. Oh, the tires were used singularly as rears ! On 2 group rides when used as a paired set, the comments ranged from 'mesmerizing' to 'distracting' to 'is that a tri thing?' - beyond the consensus of 'just ugly'. As the driver, after riding them on the front = muchly prefer to have it in the non-existent rear view mirror. But the ride quality and durability - always good. Guess I've been successfully riding on a GrantP theory for decades..

First ride on the Gios SR with the swapped drop bars. The bend on the bars was different than im used to so if after a few rides I'm not comfortable I'll be changing them.

Ride safe everyone.

No photos today but a late lunch break for another 17 miles or so of hip recovery. Just trying to build some base miles and fitness. I guess it's going well since I had to out sprint a flipping pit bull. It was definitely slower than the black lab in December. Not sure what it is about me and dogs but the Gitane TdF did great. Time for some bear spray or ...

I've been getting my 1953ish Sun Wasp "Massed Start" DB 531 build ready for a test ride. The Sun frame came to me courtesy of a member here. This bike would have been originally equipped with a Campagnolo Gran Sport or Cyclo Benelux 4-speed derailleur, but I'm using my classic Sturmey Archer + Dyad 700c set. Happier days and warmer weather are coming this Easter weekend so I wanted to get out on it. About a mile down the road the spring on the rear Mafac Racer snapped. Maybe its a sign from Murphy that I should consider period British brakes instead. Ah well. These wheels are 700c so I'm not sure what period brakes, other than the Racers, would perform. I'll have to find a Racer at the co-op for parts.

1953 or so Sun Wasp DB Reynolds 531 tubing, made in Birmingham, GB
Velocity Dyad wheels with '53 SA FW four-speed hub gear and '62 front dyno (I've got a period lamp set I'm polishing up that match the patina of this frame well).
Mafac Racer brakes + levers from the bin
GB stem from Hilary Stone
Old Brooks saddle
Conti tires

Cedar River Trail, down in @Wildwood's part of the country (I think).

.
This was on the way home, before I caught the light rail as I was running out of light. Dumbest thing I've done in a while is to stop at the Rainier Beach station. That is one sketchy *** area at night. It got a little, no, a lot scary being there alone with my Bertoni. Shoulda just ridden all the way home. The ride was great. Live and learn.

Took the Super Course on a scavenger hunt this morning. Ride with GPS had hidden cycling caps around Portland. I looked at one of the spots with no luck. I guess somebody got up before 8:00! Next, I went to one of the new Trek stores to check it out, get a t-shirt, and enter to win an expensive bike. What a strange sensation to enter a bike store and feel zero excitement. BO-RING! Anyways, nice 15 miles and nice shirt. I’ll let y’all know when I win the carbon fiber ebike.

One more week of hot weather riding in AZ. Today it was out and back to New River on a nice road with a wide shoulder for a total of 50 miles. Temps in the 90s and no, there's not a lot of shade to be found out there!

New River Road:

I'll be bringing this bike back with me; I've found the Zero Bike concept doesn't really work with this one - I want to ride it

@Andy_K met me in Troutdale for an assault on Larch Mountain. Riding down the Gorge several times I've bypassed the turnoff for this classic, local climb. Lately I've been taking the one less travelled by, and it has made all the difference.

Just a bit down the road from this view is a turn up and off to the right.

2019 pic, @SquireBlack undled up for winter riding

14 miles from the main highway you get near the summit, park your bike, and hike up to this view:

shamelessly stolen from the interwebs

But this time we didn't make it, not accounting for early April weather in Oregon at 2,000'.

Glad to post this thread

A short ride, a short report, a short rant. Call me shorty.
Cedar pollen has me tending toward asthma this season, instead of just head congestion = some morning rides are out of the question for a while.

Been dry for a few days w/ some sun, but the lower fields and bogs are still wet

Saturday traffic was busy, so I head to my ‘2 Lakes’ ride. ‘Lake’ Kathleen and McDonald.

Here’s the rant - you can’t see the Lakes, much. A couple of more houses block almost any view. Oh well, not much to see anyway.

Lake Kathleen - between the trees

Lake McDonald in all its’ viewing splendor

Lugged steelie with Ergo 10. Hard to believe it’s nearly 20 years old. A favorite ride.
