Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

No way! I like Mike Z. Good to hear he's back on the bike. I still use the old team psimet arms.

I've been thinking about doing some road racing next year. The problem is I'm scared of the head injury. My kid is young, my business is doing well, my wife quit her job and is starting her own business. I see clients and victims and cyclist friends with head injuries and it hits closer to home now. I've been riding more dirt to get off the road. I read parts of the Should I Quit thread in the 33. I can relate to a lot of that stuff. I feel less invincible.

A woman on an ebike with a huge cargo carrier rang her bell at me and blew by. I tried to catch a draft but she was too fast.

That's HTFU right there. I'll admit, when the weather changed for rain yesterday afternoon, I hit the trainer in the basement.

unpleasant but it was an improvement of my ride last night. Even at my slow speed of 30 kmh, hailstones hurt.

Of course, it was just misting when I took off, and no big deal. It became a bit more wet, a lot more dark, and much colder by the time I was done.

Hail sucks, especially when there's lightning about. Hiding under a tree is a tough choice. Hail does hurt, and glad you made it through.

I'm close to needing a new Specialized helmet. And some shoes, but I'm holding out on both.
