Tilted which way? As in sloping or as in the fork blades are angled to allow for straight blades with a rake? Either way I suspect the answer is many decades old and not what many first think of.

That's what I remember. It struck me as a manufacturing simplification marketed as a performance enhancement. Still not keen on how they look.
