Recommend some pedals

Hi,

I have a stock 2015 Langster Specialized fixie (w/ freewheel) and am in need of some new pedals. I've been through 2 sets that cracked after a few rides. I don't know much about what to look for but I want something light-weight, durable and black. Just interested in what my fellow cyclists on the forums recommend.

Thanks!

I don't like riding straps or cages because I have trouble getting my feet into them at times. I also won't ride brakeless without foot retention, so I wound up taking a pair of platform pedals off of an old BMX and using those because they have teeth that grip the bottom of my shoes. They may not be the lightest pedals ever but they do their job well. Weight shouldn't be your primary concern when shopping for pedals unless you're racing your bike.

Assuming you're not talking about clipless, my favorite is MKS GR9's for a clip and strap setup.

Don't really like how bulky those BMX pedals look, but they sure work well. Ride them without toe clips and they won't scuff up your Js, either.

+1 Get em from Scrod along with A-C Crayton cages and Exustar double straps and you're in business

My Langster prefers Deore XT pd-m875 pedals which are clipless SPD pedals. You could go with the cheaper versions of them but the XTs are decently light but not XTR level expensive and I can walk in my shoes rather than with road pedals I can't so much.

I have never really been a fan of toe clips and straps and such like that. Though if that sort of thing is your thing I would probably go with the Bruce Gordon Stainless Strapless Toe Clips or MKS Half Clips and probably a MKS or White Industries Urban Pedal.

Do you want to use clips & straps or just flat platform pedals? Threw some plastic BMX pedals on my townie and it feels great! But look weird.

Amazon.com: Wellgo Track Fixie Bike Pedal with Toe Clips and Leather Strap, Black
I have these on my 2015 Langster. They are narrow, but I wear a size 12 shoe and they're wide enough for me. They've taken a beating as well and are still holding up well. IMO look sleeker than bmx pedals.

Thanks for the replies. I'm looking for something without clips I want to be able to rock any pair of kicks I want when I cycle. I can deal with straps

Right now those Urban Platforms are winning.

The GR-10s are easier to flip when straps are attached, vs the urban platforms. Something to consider.

I've been rocking wellgo magnesium platforms w/ straps for a long time. They serve me quite well.

I get the ones with sealed bearings and replaceable pins. Try different stuff until you find what works for you.

Sure but high quality stuff MUSA. If someone asked if I would rather have a bikes direct hunk of metal in the shape of a bike or a set of high quality pedals that are MUSA, I would go with the pedals all day errrreday. Plus the CrankBros eggbeater 11s are like 400 bucks at least.

Yeah but with the bike-shaped object you can ride somewhere. The expensive pedals, they look pretty but are otherwise useless. Best you could do is go up to someone that owns a KiloTT and say "hey can I borrow your bike? I'll lend you these awesome pedals for collateral while I'm riding it."

Ehhh, purdy stuff ain't always useless. Plus I do have a new build I am going to embark on in the nearish future which is going to need a set of platform type pedals.

I'll assume you have big feet like me.

MKS Sylvan Touring. Quality. Reasonable price. Serviceable. Killer grip. Wide left to right, but not BMX big front to rear. And they have a classic townie look.

No. The serrated part measure 3 3/4 inches wide.

And the excellent news for you, if you like a smaller pedal, is that they make the exact same pedal in a narrower version. It's called the MKS Sylvan Stream.

They are available in squidly colors too, if you are into that sorta thing.
