Ok, maybe the “silly flexible wheels” part was a bit more judgmental…

These days I've discovered that it is difficult to even give away Cinelli 65's or 66's. It's not difficult to understand, neither were ever very road rider friendly AFAIC and I feel pretty fortunate that the several I had all have moved on. The Cinelli 64 was/is one of the most comfortable and universally used bar shapes - feel great and look great.
JMO of course YMMV

I did a gulp reading MooneyBloke 's comments about Cinelli XA stem as I've got one of them on my work bike that does 1000's of miles a year Funny enough the reason I chose it was it looked extra chunky and overbuilt compared to come of the other traditional quill stems. Might have a rethink on that.

I've got some Cinelli Giro D'Italia 64-42 bars with that XA stem, and use 10 speed Campag shifters, and did find them particularly fiddly and limiting in positions that look and feel good, I did get a position in the end but my preferred quill / bars combo which I have on 6 bikes is 3ttt Record stems and 3ttt Competizione (Merckx bend) bars. The 3ttt combo I find has more position options without flaring the shifters out and still has classic drop bar looks.

I run modern Campag 10 speed Record/Chorus/Centaur shifters on all but one of on the 6 bikes mentioned above, as I prefer more modern gears and better brakes than the period correct originals, but I still want a classic looking race bike.

And of course the thread starter should buy the Serotta, we're all enablers here, ride it, and then tinker away tweaking various bits if they wish to optimize it for them. E|ven if it doesn't work out, its a Serotta and they are well regarded so you'll always find a buyer I'd imagine. So you've got nothing to lose and everything to gain, go on buy it already....

Oops sorry, but great news

As already mentioned I'm not a fan of the bar.stem combo, the rest of it looks decent, with just the gearing issue to address. Is it particularly hilly where you are? If more gears needed on a cassette than the Miche 26 tooth then a triple sounds the one to go for.

Bringing the bike up from the basement for Spring prep made me realize I never updated this thread! I did decide to keep as-is, but with a couple of aesthetically driven mods.

I did swap out to a Soma Hwy 1 compact bar, and I swapped the Thomson Masterpiece post for a USE Alien Ti with a bot of setback. New saddle and bartape rounded out the package very nicely to my tastes. I’ll probably only ride it for Monday night recovery rides and shooting around to visit friends in town, but no lie, I love the look of this bike!

Sorry for the crap living-room-at-night pic; notice the flat rear tire from a winter spent unused:

Love what you did with it and how it came out. There's nothing wrong with a bike for the flatter rides.

Last year I rebuilt a Serotta NHX with mostly '80s Campy. You have the last of those most elegant components ever produced. Glad you chose to keep it together.

You know what would complete this bike? A silver Campy Record headset.

Hmm… I can see that, although visually, it would push the bike back in time, whereas the black King, along with the black Mavic ceramics, blackwall tires, and Ibis stem really anchor it to the early ‘90s time period from whence it comes. I also aimed to hit that period with the Flite saddle and the USE Alien post, too, again prioritizing that crossover discipline thing that was happening between road and MTB with all the cool USA and UK cottage industry component stuff represented by Ibis, King, and USE.

I’m resisting white cables… 😊

I really like the looks of the bike, nice job. Gotta say, I may be a bit jealous of your acquisition of this. IMO, NO WHITE HOUSING

I'm a white housing guy, but in this instance, I definitely agree. But I'd also swap the saddle and tape for black, too. Tan seems an odd choice considering the rest of the bike.

Brown and red go pretty well together. Maybe a more reddish brown would fit it a bit better. I sure would not call it odd. I, also, would likely go with black, but will not criticize the brown.
The most important aspect , it’s Chaadster’s bike

I would. On a dark green bike? Abso-friggin'-lutely! But the OP likes it, so that's fine.

White cables? No. But yellow would be just fine. Personally I'd bin all the black stuff and brighten up the whole thing. It's a beauty and deserves to be seen. This Ibis stem might make the cut tho

Thanks! The white one is not a Colorado II, I think it’s designated as Colorado LT.

Today is a different day, I still have the LT, but I did get a little greedy a few weeks ago when a blue Atlanta rolled into the local nonprofit. Super long top tube, Reynolds Colorado. I think this is a '92. This is different than the white, the difference being the toptube. The blue has straight tube whereas the white has tube flared out and flattened to the diameter of the thinner portions.

This has a 61cm toptube, with a 3ttt stem of 110mm. Since this picture I have pulled the saddle forward 1/8” still quite the reach, lol, I’ll find a 100 and some bars that are compact drop. The big blue weighs in at 21lbs 10oz.

I’m bringing the picture of the white forward, this is my first visual comparison of two, it’s in storage.

Dark Green? I certainly have color blindness issues, but I think there is abso-freakin-lutely no dark green on this bike. If I offended you, it’s your problem. I hope the OP appreciates your sort of ok’ing his selections.

I'm not really sure how you mis-understood what I wrote, but there it is. I meant that tan bars and saddle would in fact look good on a green bike. Not as much on this one.

And I hope the OP appreciates you screaming at him not to use white cables.

Dudes, it's cool! We all have our own tastes and opinions, and I'm not one to feel hurt by some randos on the internet saying they don't like my bike's color combos, so no worries one way or the other! I can always change back to standard black saddle and tape if need be, but I prefer to be a bit left of center in most matters.

Oh, and for the record, white cables were definitely never on the table, so no worries there, either!

The sun came out for a sec so I thought I’d try for a better pic, but it clouded again. Maybe the tan bits
seem less odd though? I dunno, but I like it and I’m callin’ this one done!

I really don’t know, I want to say the CSi has proprietary tubing that has more shaping to it. Honestly I’m not even sure if that tubing was special made for Serotta by Columbus or Ishiwata or whoever. I hope to learn something so I will stay tuned to this thread. Also, of the used CSi’s that I see up for sale, almost all of these seem to be “custom” geometry for the original purchaser. I see ones with extra short top tubes, head tube extenders, for example.

The tan bits do look a bit odd. but I really like how the stem/handblebar tape and seatpost/saddle match up with each other! I'm hoping to find a Colorado frame to build up with modern components and I wonder how it would like with all black components (groupset, stem, seatpost), deeper carbon wheels, and possibly a newer carbon fork.
