Ft. Davis Cyclefest, TX
Guess I should post some pics of my "bucket list" ride for this year. This was in the Ft. Davis mountains of Texas at the Cyclefest and Hammerfest back in late September of this year. My first time climbing mountains and riding in elevation above 500 feet. Day two finished at almost 7,000 feet. At least there was no humidity!!
Pic before the first day Ft. Davis loop (75 miles). Yeah, I'm the old guy (blue helmet) and it was a great ride. We have our SB250 jerseys on...a 250 mile ride we did at the end of June.
Rest stop near Bear Mountain, I believe.
Another rest stop.
Just a pic along the route.
My young friends getting ready to do the day two race or hammerfest. Yes they convinced me to do it also. I made it without walking or falling over!! Let's see a seven mile ride with over 1,800 feet elevation gain. (5,000+ to almost 7,000) Remember I had never actually done a bike ride in elevation more than 500 feet above sea level. I think I almost wore out my 34x28 granny gear. Next year I need a 30 or 32 in the back!
Oh yeah, the downhills were awesome On my bucket list for next year also. I believe the cyclefest this year was the 37th year.

Levon, the BMC monstercross bike was feeling jealous after I had such a great ride Sunday on Hattie, the Crux. Today I was invited to join a few friends for a casual ride on some gravel roads I had not ridden before, so I grabbed the comfortable steel steed and went out exploring.

Nice shot of Sawtooth Mountain (above). To entire 70+ mile loop is a serious ride, much more than I've ever attempted. I hope to be back out there Memorial Day week next year, although it will be hot. I'd like to be there right now. We stayed in Fort Davis for Thanksgiving one year and the weather was gorgeous.

I love this time of year. Here in the UK it's called autumn, in the USA - fall. Whatever you call it the trees look great!

Please splain to me why some images are large and some are small .... everytime I post something it is small and my eyes appreciate the larger images folks post .... I know I can click on the small ones and they get big, but what is the posting trick to get larger images?

Larger images are hosted on another server, like Flickr, and embedded with "tags" in the page. The size of the image on the server determines how big it will appear on the page (generally, unless an add pushes it smaller)
here's some code without the parts that make it code. I've removed all the opening and closing square brackets.
What shows up is below the code

Was looking thru some older photos and thought this one would be an interesting post. We were riding a local rail trail and stopped to enjoy the view. The local residents must have thought we were stopping to bring them goodies. This little guy was a little more eager to check us out than most.

Here is a shot of Glendora Ridge Road from a familiar location. There were a LOT of cyclists out!

The meals were incredible. This ride was a most welcome change from the usual. Focus was on learning, meeting and experiencing rather than the typical focus on efficiency and speed. It was not an easy adjustment to make, but well worth the effort.
