Yep, I don't know the exact year, but you're in the ballpark.

My ex GF has a Univega MTB the same color as the OP and it is quite striking in person.

Only the head tube is pink, and in my haste to take pics that day I neglected to roll down one hood...

There's another thread called Regrets, about bikes we regret we sold. I had a Motobecane Le Champion which came in pink. I regret not only that I sold it but also that I had it painted metallic gray. What was I thinking? I guess I didn't like pink at the time.

Pink carried a stigma against American masculinity in those days. Not so elsewhere in the world. Boy did I get a lot of heckling for selecting a Rose Vitus! But I thought it looked great and stood out against the more basic colors Vitus offered. It was rare to see one then, and I knew it would be even rarer decades later. I followed my heart's desire. And like the Centurion Ironmen, it is so 80s.
Pink is the adopted color representing the fight against breast cancer. To adorn pink means you're an advocate and supporter of the cause. Today pink is trendy and accepted.

Yeah, mostly, but I once got someone yelling at me on my bike from her car: "Nice shirt ... QUEER!"

It didn't bother me, but I wonder what's up with her.

When I first betook the pink Prelude, I winced and took a step backward. It's the nicest bike I've ever owned, and the color is growing on me too.

I'm a big fan of pink. Not to show how naive I am, but I had never seen a pink road bike before. Totally cool.

What? Still no Fiori Modena? Ok, here's two of my Pink and White Fiori. I had 3, only one left.
