Any Rene Herse owners here?
I have been reading a little about their bikes and checked out the new Herse info at boulder cycles's website.
Wow!!! The new Herse framesets are expensive. And Herse components are really expensive.
1. Do you own vintage, or new series?
2. How is the ride compared to your other lugged steel bikes?
They sound like they have very nice ride qualities.
I am interested to hear your thoughts as to how they compare with other frames.

René Herse died in 1976, so any new production is not from him personally. That said, rights to the Herse name were purchased by Jan Heine, who is doing his best to stay true to the Herse legacy.

Herse
If it were me I would buy a real Herse made in the 80s or before when the shop was owned by Rene Herse or his daughter or not at all.

I Think there is a Second, very expensive line of replica frames hand made in Boulder Colorado ..
and the MAP bike frame builder who builds 650B Rando Constructeur frames and forks..
money is not a problem, I assume.

If you want to "build your own" constructeur bike, a great starting point is a 1970's Schwinn Sports Tourer/Superior. These were fillet brazed frames with great riding geometry. Take the frame to a framebuilder and braze on any do-dads you want and you have a nice quality custom bike for a fraction of the cost of a new custom bike.
