Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Oh, I didn't think it was boring; I was taking the opportunity to trim it down so it looked like a dirty story. I'm with you; one of the things I like about the roads I ride on now is seeing deer and roadrunners and rabbits and I think one fox. And cows and horses and sheep and goats, on the domesticated side.

When I lived in Boulder I went on a run one lunchtime and saw a deer. Upon coming back I mentioned it on the internal chat client; a Texas A&M grad I worked with asked if I shot it.

I hate A&M.

And in MTB news, my hacked together rear tubeless setup gave up the ghost today on a compression.

Not as impressive as some burps I've seen but it was still a bit startling.

Wow. Where do you think their lodge was? That’s a pretty active river to dam and a pretty urban setting.

The bad thing about wearing a glove around machinery is the glove can get snagged and pull your hand in worse than if it was a bare hand. If you must wear a glove make it a strong leather glove.

I was a fire fighter, for a season, in Plumas National Forest. We were developing a brand new camp, which had some buildings but was out there and unfinished. I was the only one of the crew who was openly happy we didn't get called up. We once got called to the camp of a crew that did get called up. That was some steep terrain we were working in. Nastiness if there was a fire. I found something else to do the following season. 78 or 79.
